The U.S. is running out of time to prevent a cataclysmic war in the Western Pacific. While the world has been focused on Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, Xi Jinping appears to be preparing for an even more consequential onslaught against Taiwan. Mr. Xi’s China is fueled by a dangerous mix of strength and weakness: Faced with profound economic, demographic and strategic problems, it will be tempted to use its burgeoning military power to transform the existing order while it still has the opportunity.
This peaking-power syndrome—the tendency for rising states to become more aggressive as they become more fearful of impending decline—has caused some of the bloodiest wars in history. Unless the U.S. and its allies act quickly, it could trigger a conflict that would make the war in Ukraine look minor by comparison.

“The U.S. is getting ready to start a cataclysmic war in the Western Pacific to distract from its failing war in the Ukraine.”
You really hate the United States, don’t you.
“Pelosi went there to provide the Chinese a pretext to invade.”
That’s the only reason I’ve come across yet that makes any sense.
No, their products are better, and they want to sell them.
> I don’t think China is even considered cheap anymore.
Nope, even 4 or 5 years back it was cheaper to spin up design teams of EEs and SEs in Portugal or Algeria(for example) than Shenzen. And in Shenzen the engineers would be more likely to cross the street for a better offer.
As the old Romans said, if you want peace prepare for war.
Making something in China requires a Chinese partner-often of dubious quality. Making something in Malaysia or Eastern Europe allows you to have ownership and total control of manufacturing and quality control.
I have a set of impact sockets [from Harbor Freight - well before the the days of the ‘net] that were made in Japan.
Certainly no need to replace them.
More important, Taiwan is effectively at this time blockaded by sea and air. China’s sanctions will eventually strangle Taiwan, they will fold, much quicker than Ukraine as nothing will go in or out. Biden’s debacles in the making.
The latest, today’s Ukie military defeats first half, Taiwan current situation last.

Nixon went to China at the height of the Cold War. He made
some agreements that were very tame compared to what Congress
passed in the early 1990s. The trade we have today is facilitated
those new laws, not Nixon's agreements.
Clinton should not have extended MFN status to China.
Clinton was in China's hip pocket. He even facilitated missle
tech transfer that helped China's ICBM's to work properly. He did
not give China MFN. Congress did, and they also signed massive
new trade legislation that set up what is taking place with China
today. Clinton was a complete J Off, but he didn't have the mental
faculties to pull of what was done for China. His minions helped to
facilitate it, so that much is on him.
And they did this just a few years after the Tiananmen Square mass
murder.
Fauci and company should not have been working with ChiCom biowar labs.
Isn't that the truth. He should be sitting in a prison cell with
no window.
The highlights from Hamlet list.
“Japanese mfg stuff was a joke in the late 40s/early 50s then Ed Deming went over there and taught them his system, and they became the top line in mass produced products.”
Well, let’s be honest: After the War they didn’t have a hell of a lot to work with.
“However, the intro pretty much said China is looking to start something”
I think the US is the one desiring it.
Taiwan is a mountain with some beach on the west and the north. It is a natural fortress for defense, if done right.
Yup.
Si vis pacem, para bellum.
Virtually everything they shrieked was going to happen under DJT has happened or will happen under the Turnip in Chief.
That is so true.
We won Vietnam we.were too magnanimous in victory and allowed the Soviets to save face. Effectively we won Korea too in establishing a stable.though volatile border.
Nailed it!
Hawkish WSJ pounding the war drums mightily.
Wonder who told ‘em to.
“I think the US is the one desiring it.”
I don’t.
By the way, Peski is taken, Bahmut has been entered officially.
Serhii Gnezdilov (Сергій Гнезділов). He is detachment commander in the 21st separate motorized infantry battalion “Sarmat” and is already known to the Ukrainian media for his older interviews.
His video interview confirms the clobbering the Ukies are now receiving in the Donbass.
