Pro-Life Congresswoman Jackie Walorski was killed Wednesday in a car accident in her northern Indiana District, according to her office, along with two of her staff members.
Walorski was first elected to represent Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District in 2012. She previously served three terms in the state’s legislature. She was born in South Bend and lived near Elkhart, Indiana and she and her husband were both Christian missionaries where they established a foundation that provided food and medical supplies to impoverished children.
“Jackie’s husband, was just informed by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon. She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. We will have no further comment at this time,” her office said in a statement.
House Republican Whip Steve Scalise said he and other colleagues were shocked and saddened by the news.
“I am devastated and saddened to learn about the tragic passing of my dear friend Jackie Walorksi and two of her staffers,” he said. “Jackie was an instrumental member of our conference, serving as a member of my deputy whip team for several years. She was a champion for the people of Indiana, and she will be remembered for her kindness, tenacity, and commitment to helping others.”
“Jackie and her staffers died serving her constituents. They will be missed, and our nation will miss their service. My prayers are with Jackie’s loving husband Dean, her entire family, and the families of both of her staffers,” he added.
Here’s more on what happened:
The sheriffs department reported that a vehicle “traveled left of center and collided head on with a southbound sports utility vehicle,” which was carrying Walorski.
Walorski was in the car with communications director Emma Thompson and district director Zachery Potts when they collided with another vehicle at about 12:30 p.m.
The driver of the other vehicle, who was driving alone, also was killed.
The sheriffs department said that the driver of Walorski’s vehicle was taken to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition, but died in transit.
“Though we came from very different places politically, she was always prepared to work together where there was common ground,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “My thoughts and prayers are with her family and the other victims of this terrible crash.”
Walorski had a 100% pro-life voting record and frequently sponsored or spoke out in favor of pro-life legislation.
Count me suspicious. What do we know about the person who crossed the center divide and hit them head on?

Terrible news...
SOOOO Who crossed over the center line???
I'd much rather see a semi-repeat story that has the thoughtful perspective that Morgana found, than yet ANOTHER pedantic, unoriginal, teenie-humor, overused, and seemingly endless low brow FR Star Trek cliché of "SHE'S/HE'S DEAD JIM".
"... you can't read"... How ironically pathetic you are.
All died in that accident - sad really - including the woman who caused it. Unexpected deaths are so difficult for those left behind. akes time to even adjust let alone accept.
Read the article.
I live a few miles from the accident site and Jackie was my representative.
The other driver was a middle-aged local woman. There’s no word yet if she had a heart attack, stroke or seizure while driving or swerved to miss something.
This is a tough loss for our community and one of the things we appreciated about Jackie was her pro-life leadership.
If you are praying for Jackie’s family ... not sure if her mom is still alive or not. If so please remember her mom, too.
And the other two were SO young. Gosh, it tears you up when you have kids that age.
For her and the two staffers:. May God welcome you by name!!!
K rails also slow first responders. No fun to vault over.
They’d have to do like everyone else and wait until the next exit or cross street. Or put a short gap in them for emergency vehicles. It’s already been done and it’s not real complex.
He’s dead too.
I’m suspicious for another reason. Car accidents could be heart attacks. I hope an autopsy is done, but I know it won’t be.
#1. First responders are expected to be in good shape and if they cannot scale a 45 inch high wall with some gear, they should be selling shoes.
#2. K rails will save *many* times more lives with K-rails as opposed to no K-rails on undivided roads.
If a first responder can't scale this, they're in the wrong job. There is no debate here.
Hell, I had to search deliberately about this. My hubby told me late afternoon. Had not seen anything on FR about it.
Found 1 thread, then see yours show up. And it’s not the same source. So, you’re OK! (I point out duplicates, but honestly FR is terrible looking for similar or even same.)
In addition, K rails will not only save many times more lives on undivided roads, than no K rails, it will likely put a few first responders out of work.
Head on collisions can be like aircraft crashes, they’re horrific and it happens all the time. K rails are needed regardless of first responder complaints.
Not as good as Biden, I must say. (Sorry, I can’t resist….German Shepherd lover and promoter.)
We know she’s dead.
Unless you know of Moslems called “Edith”, I doubt she went on a suicide mission.
Yeah, Jersey barriers ALWAYS prevent major fatal accidents.
Sorry, they bounce things back. Not necessarily prettier than head-on - by traffic flow.
Much prettier.
And most of the time they keep things going in the same general direction. Just look at the direction of post impact skids marks after they come in contact with the K rail. Always better than crossing into opposing traffic lanes.
