Retirees were tricked out of their savings in a telemarketing scheme involving fake federal agents, authorities say.
In one example, officials say a retired Massachusetts nurse was swindled out of over $900,000 in funds from her bank and retirement accounts. She thought her identity had been stolen and that she needed to transfer her money to new accounts — accounts owned by fraudsters pretending to work for agencies like the Social Security Administration and U.S. Department of Justice.

You Tube has a slew of anti-scammers who target these scam centers. Very entertaining watching them mess with the scammers.
Never respond to any phone, text or email contact that you didn’t initiate. If you think it is legitimate then access the website from a protected browser. Do not click on a link.
Save yourself a lot of trouble.

The reason these people fall for these scams are they don’t contact a 3rd party. It’s easier to just go along than do any critical thinking.
I can swear in high decibels to the person who keeps calling me Grandma & wants jail bail.

And trust absolutely no one who calls or sends you an unsolicited email. Assume that they are all frauds. Because they are.
It really bothers me that this problem isn’t highlighted more. The government should be running TV spots warning about this. And they should be putting notices in Social Security mailings, etc.
You won’t save everyone. But you will save a lot.
That is exactly right. I had an elderly relative get swindled in a time share scheme that way. The sales rep was showering her with gifts and attention, making it so she didn't want to let him down by saying no or even saying she needed some time to think on it. She signed the papers which meant she was going to give up most of her nest egg. She literally thought she was doing a great thing for her family by giving them luxury vacations and was so proud telling us. When we had to tell her that she instead got scammed, she was devastated.
We helped get her out of it but it was quite a dicey situation. These people are scumbags.
A slow and agonizing death is deserved by all scamming scumbags!
FBI is too busy raiding homes of Trump associates in pre-dawn hours and arresting them and do all the paper work.
The FBI does not like competition.
