Pelosi expected to visit Taiwan, Taiwanese and US officials say
CNN ^ | 8/1/22 | Eric Cheung

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to visit Taiwan as part of her tour of Asia, according to a senior Taiwanese government official and a US official, despite warnings from Biden administration officials, who are worried about China’s response to such a high-profile visit.

The stop – the first for a US House speaker in 25 years – is not currently on Pelosi’s public itinerary and comes at a time when US-China relations are already at a low point.

The Taiwanese official added that she is expected to stay in Taiwan overnight. It is unclear when exactly Pelosi will land in Taipei.

Interesting logic from Russia’s favorite fan club of FR.

When they aren’t claiming that Russia’s attack is a hoax or a coordinated false flag to destroy “globohomo” and Soros, they are claiming that Ukraine’s resistance is doomed and Russia will steamroll them.

However, when Taiwan is the subject of an invasion, it will be “difficult” and virtually impossible for China to succeed in subduing Taiwan.

Funny indeed.

When foreign leaders visit the US, how many of them are escorted by their nation’s fighters, and if so do they break off at the US territorial limits and leave further protection to us?

Dunno what happens in those scenarios with political figures. My thought relates to the practical application of raw military power

Nan: I wish these were brains.

To much hoopla around this “event”. What else is going on that we should be concerned about?

I agree with your strategic analysis Travis, but I am not at all confident that Biden is smart enough, nor are his poseur handlers honest enough or smart enough to back down.

This is a confrontation Red China wants, and we have a China compromised Biden ( Biden made many millions of the Red Chinese) who will easily fall right into China’s trap. One just has to look at what these idiot poseurs did in Afghanistan to realize that Biden and his ganag would easily have us on a war footing in very short order indeed. It would be the ultimate punishment of an America that will not go along with the Biden Left’s Re-imagined America Policies.

Pretty much a treasonous situation, perhaps a factor that most have not considered. There is nothing at all American about the Biden administration. They are 5th column Marxists and leftists. What they did in exiting Afghanistan proves it.As such they will use China to inflict maximum damage on the US military, so the US Pacific Fleet is at grave risk from within our own admnistration.A smart sea lawyer would not follow a single Biden order.

I agree, it’s sabotage of America by knowing traitors, using woke useful idiots as their tools.

The ChiComs launch that thing SpaceCom satellites will pick that up immediately and the US Navy will have 20 minutes to prepare and to maneuver.

They are steerable. They can adjust course a lot faster than a ship can move.

I don't think so. That is the (false?) advertising. Steering a hypersonic warhead in the terminal phase is almost physically impossible.

“Steering a hypersonic warhead in the terminal phase is almost physically impossible.”

That is an Internet rumor said by those not in the know. People tend to believe everything they think. I am a space and missiles guy. Site chief and telemetry expert. I’ve been on the receiving end of those maneuverable warheads. Before you also claim they cannot have radar and be guided, they arm themselves with a radar fusing pulse in terminal phase. There is far more to this picture that isn’t publicly known, but never believe that reentry warheads cannot, or have not, be made to target ships.

Yes any “surprise” attack will have a high probability of sucess. But you only get one of those.

The F/A-18 Super Hornet Is About to Fly Farther Than Ever Before [2018]

[Why does this matter? Please read on.]

The rise of China and Russia has pushed so-called “big power warfare” to the forefront of national security concerns. China in particular has so-called anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs). These medium-range ballistic missiles, such as the DF-21 mobile missile, are designed to attack aircraft carriers. ASBMs like the DF-21D variant, because of their ballistic trajectory, fast reentry speed, and steep terminal descent angle, are difficult (but not impossible) to intercept. The DF-21D’s maximum range is about 1,100 miles. Until the Navy squares away new tactics to defend against DF-21Ds, that creates a 1,100 mile no-go zone around any location with a DF-21D, which includes pretty much all of the Chinese coastline.

In the meantime, the Navy needs a credible way to hold such ASBMs at risk using its number-one strike asset: carrier-based aircraft. The problem: the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fleet has a range of just over 500 miles, fully loaded with munitions to hunt ASBM launchers. That means to get the Hornets into the fight, the aircraft carrier, and all 5,000 people on board, must be in range of Chinese missiles.
