SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California officials are pressing for more vaccine and acting with “utmost urgency” to slow the spread of the monkeypox virus, but they have not decided whether to declare a statewide emergency as the city of San Francisco announced on Thursday, the state’s public health officer said Friday.
Members of the LGBTQ community have been furious with slow response from government at all levels, and say the world should have been better prepared in manufacturing and stockpiling vaccine. They’ve expressed frustration over the inability to get the vaccine and fears they’re being abandoned yet again in a public health crisis, much as they were with HIV and AIDS.
California Sen. Scott Wiener, a Democrat who represents San Francisco, has urged the state to declare an emergency, which would provide greater flexibility around testing and vaccinations. But he also said Friday that state leaders have acted with an appropriate sense of urgency.
“At this point, I think local, state, federal, we’re all rowing in the same direction. We just all need to row faster because we have a limited window of time to control this outbreak,” he said.

Not close enough yet to the November elections.
Planning and strategy is everything!
Considering the vaccines are from the US strategic vaccine stockpile, the slowness of the response is worrying. The vaccine used to prevent Monkeypox is a vaccine stockpiled for use against Smallpox. It would be quite scary if in the event of a release of Smallpox, the response were this slow.
When they shut down the gay bars and hangouts, then they might get serious about this gay disease/monkeypox!
How can they address it?
They’d have to restrict what they feel are the cream of the
crop of their constituents.
California should declare a state of emergency over too many idiots in Sacramento.
Including the News and Review.

California will not declare an emergency regarding monkeypox until officials quit using that offensive term. I agree, I like Tucker Carlson’s new name for monkey pox.
Schlong Covid.
Emergencies get the government revnue flowing -Newsome not only loves emergencies!...He loves creating them!
Much like AIDS, the monkeypox is spread almost exclusively by the behavior of a specific demographic, one that is known to have a temper tantrum if their needs are not met right away, just this minute, hang the collateral effects on everybody else.
Abstinence makes the heart grow stronger.
Why? Because you all have sold your lifestyle, PRIDEFULLY, as normal so therefore you are suddenly entitled to science and government spending resources to enable your filthy and unnatural sexual activities?? However, fear not... the bureaucrats are changing the name to better muddy any "stigma" of promiscuous homosexual anal sex.
Still calling it “M-word” pox? It looks like the shock, offense and outrage over the “M-word” exists only among government officials.
You will never get the homosexuals to stop promiscuously buggering each other.

So, like, “Two Weeks To Flatten The Hump” ...
It would be quite scary if in the event of a release of Smallpox, the response were this slow.
While happily no one knows how effective small pox vaccines given in the 50s are today, at least I have been vaccinated. And the vaccine is supposed to prevent the disease as opposed to ‘lessen the severity’.
It’s an emergency only for un-celebate gays.
California never declared an emergency over AIDS either
Ditto
I’m sure the left want to change the name first.
Will they try to equate masks with it? ...you know there’s some restrictive measure associated with monkeypox on the way.
“Hey, if our precious lgbtqahgf123+ community has to suffer so must we all”.
