Fate of Historic Toxic Exposure Bill Unclear After Shocking Senate Defeat

Supporters of a plan to expand benefits for millions of veterans exposed to toxic substances and fumes are furious after a surprising defeat in a Senate procedural vote left the bill in limbo.

Veterans advocates and lawmakers who support the bill are vowing to keep fighting for its passage, framing Wednesday night's shocking development as a delay rather than a defeat. Still, it's a delay they say could cost cancer-stricken veterans their lives as they wait for care and should be blamed on a group of Republican senators they described as "liars," "hypocrites" and "cowards."

"How are these people human? Where's any sense of decency?" comedian and veterans advocate Jon Stewart said. "And sadly, [the veterans] are the people that fought and defended their right to this f---ery."

Well, the bill should pass - but saying that failure to pass it costs people with cancer their lives is such an exaggeration as to be false.

It would pass in a heartbeat if it was for illegals.

It could if those people cannot get care because of financial reasons.

Do we know all that was in the bill? Was there a bunch of extra crap included like money for illegals or the VA paying for abortions? I don’t know and of course the left is not forthcoming about that so....I will wait until all the details come out and it will.

The veterans should identify as Ukrainians. The bill would pass easily.

PLUS, if I was one of the Senators, I could NOT support the bill without an amendment compelling a Senate Committee to investigate and prosecute Pentagon leadership for the decades-old practice which is the focus of this bill in the first place.

No one was kicked to the curb. From what I read there is an accounting problem in the bill and those that voted no want it fixed before voting yes on it.
This is just months before an election so the Democrats are going to introduce massive spending bills labeled Veterans, Children, Working Families, and such and stuff it with a lot of pork. Then when the Republicans say wait a minute the Dem supporters write articles like this

It passed once, but had to be presented again because it contained some kind of error. One has to wonder what was put in there along with fixing the error? If that is the case, the Republicans need to speak up. Or have they spoken up, and the press has suppressed it? More to this than meets the eye, I’m thinking.

Yah, what I have read is that some hinky revenue verbiage was added — so that it is no longer like earlier versions of the bills voted on or passed.
And, if JStewart is spouting on anything, I’d take a 2nd look.

Exactly. What they say is in the Bill, and what is actually in the Bill, are two completely different things.

Senate GOPers are saying it would have had enogh Senate GOP support if not for some poison pills the Dims had in the bill, and it was because of those things, not the funding for the Vets, that the bill did not pass - yet.

But the idiot comedian no nothing celebrities, working for the Dims, and with the media wind in their favor, will and are framing the issue as one of “heartless” Republicans that talk the talk but don’t walk the walk when it comes to our vets.

Senate GOPers need to get out in the media more and forcefully explain what really happened.
