And I seem to recall a song sung by Gary Chapman called “Man After Your Own Heart.” Good song.
I just listened to this song. It’s really beautiful.
I wish Vince and Amy well.
They’ve been married more than 20 years now.
Good combined list from both - but surprised no mention of Phil Keaggy, Rez Band, 2nd Chapter of Acts
Amy Grant compromised her soul many years ago, even before the affair with Vince Gill. She was the classic ‘pretty face at 16’ singing some songs about ‘The Lord’ with a named producer (Brown Bannister) yet when a following and name was developed, she envied the world’s version of the grandeur . My heart was sad reading her interview in McCall’s magazine in the 80’s.
For a very loose comparison -
She is to Glen Kaiser (Resurrection Band) what
Peggy Noonan is to Steve Bannon
I like me some Rez Band. Phil Keaggy and 2nd Chapter of Acts are a bit before my time. LOL
We should go to war with the Aussies over what the did to CCM in the late 1990's. LOL
Phil is still playing, still a maestro - a pleasure to marvel when you see him play. He and the instrument are One. ;-)
I met a lot of the other concert attendees before the concert. Almost all male, all my age or older, all been Christians for years and pretty serious about the Lord (who else listens to that stuff? lol) and many of them were current or retired pastors or associate pastors. That made it all the more special when David Huff started strumming the Still Rockin' song, which everybody knew would be the rockingest song we'd hear until Petra got onto the stage, and it's basically the Giants' main Christianity-with-an-attitude song. LOL All around me everybody was yelling word for word the lyrics:
Said it wouldn't last.
Said it's just passin' thing.
Said I would regret it, said I'd change my mind.
Been a long time so it's more than just a fling.
Take another look and read between the lines.
And everybody yelling along to it, pastors includes, had their heads a cockin' and their feet a stompin' just like mine. LOL
Obviously I'd yodeled to that song a lot when I was young, thinking of my worldly pals in my teen years telling me my then new devotion to Christ was a mistake. And I've sung along to other songs like it from other bands. But this time it was different. The word "Still", especially in the chorus, means a whole lot more when it's not just years since you chose Christ, but decades. No regrets.
She’s the one who had an affair with some other musician and divorced her husband, right?
Sounds like the kind of thing they’d approve of, all right.
OK, you win the thread.
(didn’t the Babylon Bee do something similar once?)
+1
You forgot Iona, and Neal Morse.
You *also* win the thread!
I’m a fan of David Crowder, and Band
Any other Crowder fans here?
I have not heard Crowder before, will have to check him out.
“- but surprised no mention of Phil Keaggy, Rez Band, 2nd Chapter of Acts”
Daniel Amos has always been my favorite.
“We should go to war with the Aussies over what the did to CCM in the late 1990’s. LOL”
I will say that when Hillsong came out with “All Things Are Possible” it really shook up CCM. It was proof that it wasn’t a sin for Christian music to be every bit as energetic and appealing as secular music. You might recall the song actually charted on the Top 100 for a while.
Also, the fat horn section in that piece was deeply reminiscent of some of the great hits of the 1970’s.
Indeed, I forgot Iona, Phil Keaggy, Neal Morse, Transatlantic, and many, many others.
Maybe I should have just posted a link to my Spotify playlist instead?
Ummm, Larry Norman was around awhile before HillSong...
