I remember reading that Amy Grant was a homewrecker..
especially Bono. what a douche.
A divorce to marry a
Country singer,
I think.
No kidding.
Ouch!
Yup,
That’s The guy.
Yes. That is what it was.
LOL (again). The first time I saw that I couldn’t stop laughing.
(That modulation from D to C really makes the song. Usually you modulate to a higher higher key in Christian music, but this works. But let’s face it; it isn’t REALLY Christian.)
My wife refuses to listen to her to her anymore, mostly because she believes that her and her current husband, country singer Vince Gill, committed adultery in leaving their respective spouses to marry each other.
In Grant’s (weak) defense, I believe that her 1st husband, some guy who’s last name was Chapman had a serious problem with drugs that he simply could not kick, and she divorced him because she was tired of it.
“Didn’t she abandon Christian music about 30 years ago?”
Not sure about her music, but I THINK she might have made a pro-gay statement a couple years ago.
The Christmas song she wrote, “Breath Of Heaven” is really pretty.
Yeah I remember Gary Chapman, he had a nightly show on Nashville Network...Nashville Now or something like that.
I don’t think she formally abandoned Christian music, but she did move into non-religious music. She also got divorced from her first husband to marry the also divorced Vince Gill at about the same time, and that disappointed a lot of people.
That’s what Vince liked, too.
Sadly, she seems to have never been as committed as her image. She sang good songs but at a minimum she left her “first love” a long time back. Sad because I really enjoyed her music when she first appeared.
And also sadly, a LOT of CCM is sung by people who don’t really believe much....
Breath of Heaven” is a beautiful song. She also wrote and performs “Christmas Lullaby”, a wonderful Christian piece of music.
The bigger problem was that they were next-door neighbors, and were banging before either of them got divorced.
Chapman might have been a POS, but she was supposed to be the righteous one, and this tarnished her image.
Chapman could have been cheating...Gills wife could have been cheating. God knows what happened. God is the final judge. But her “christian” lustre is dull.
Is this one for the people?
Is this one for the Lord?
Or do I simply serenade
For things I must afford?
You can jumble them together
My conflict still remains
Holiness is calling
In the midst of courting fame

Mmm... Nice list. I think your idea of “new” is a bit outdated, though.
(Says the fellow who’s into Kerry Livgren, Mastedon, The Awakening (Ian Tanner), Jeff Johnson, etc.)
And I seem to recall a song sung by Gary Chapman called “Man After Your Own Heart.” Good song.
