Russia says strike on Ukrainian port hit military targets

Russian defense ministry officials on Sunday insisted that an airstrike on the port of Odesa — less than a day after Russia and Ukraine signed an agreement on resuming grain shipments from there — had hit only military targets.

“In the seaport in the city of Odesa, on the territory of a shipyard, sea-based high-precision long-range missiles destroyed a docked Ukrainian warship and a warehouse with Harpoon anti-ship missiles supplied by the U.S. to the Kyiv regime,” ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a daily briefing.

The Ukrainian military said on Saturday that Moscow had attacked Odesa’s sea port with four cruise missiles, two of which had been shot down by Ukrainian air defense.

Command spokeswoman Nataliya Humenyuk said that no grain storage facilities were hit. Turkey’s defense minister, however, said he had had reports from Ukrainian authorities that one missile struck a grain silo while another landed nearby, although neither affected loading at Odesa’s docks.

Why would anyone want to be ruled by Muscovite barbarians. My grandparents and great grandparents left Latvia because they didn’t like being ruled by barbarians.

First they deny this deed, now admit to it with the caveat, only military targets were hit when pics clearly show grain facilities were hit. More war crimes to add to the list.

I wouldn’t doubt ukraine keeps military equipment there, based on how their military has positioned themselves in apartments

Grain facilities weren’t hit. The Russians only agreed to allow the grain out. The RF didn’t agree not to go after stored Harpoon missiles and other military targets. Eventually the RF will probably take Odessa, and they aren’t going to want any more infrastructure damaged than is necessary.

Ukraine would naturally attempt to store those Harpoon missiles in a concealed location. They could be expected to hide the missiles in a grain storage building. No doubt the Russians watched via satellite as those missiles were taken into the grain building. This is what war is. To defeat the enemy, you must destroy its ability to continue fighting.

Ukraine has already been shown to have hidden its army and weapons in civilian locations.

It would also be logical Ukraine might use the destroyed “tugboat” as a platform to launch those missiles. Again, the Russians might have watched missiles being loaded onto that boat.

You don’t have to “love or support Putin” to understand the Russians are not stupid.

Putin is evil. And with some exceptions, Russians are stupid.

Anytime Ukraine is given leeway on anything they will abuse it.

The orders given were intended to strike military targets. Alas, the inaccuracy of the best available weapons resulted in the destruction of nonmilitary facilities.

Therefore, the incident is not a war crime since the weapons were flawed and inaccurate.

The incident is therefore technical incompetence but certainly not a war crime

If Russians were not stupid, they would be as successful as China.

Stupid Russians were given an abundance of chance and weren’t up to the task intellectually

China was successful only due to the slave labor available from the countryside.

“No doubt the Russians watched via satellite as those missiles were taken into the grain building.”

More likely that Russian-speaking spies let Moscow know what was going on, as that part of Ukraine is loaded up with people who hate the Ukrainian government.

In any case, same result - the NATO missiles have been ‘neutralized’.

Regarding strikes on the Odessa port. If you carefully study the published documents of the agreement on the export of grain, then it is easy to see that:

1. There are no obligations for Russia not to strike at Odessa. There are only obligations not to attack the infrastructure necessary for the export of grain.

2. The destroyed boats in the port have nothing to do with the export of grain. These are military targets that can and should be destroyed as part of achieving the goals of the NMD, which have not disappeared anywhere.

3. This strike simply shows that the export of grain according to Istanbul-1 does not mean the cessation of hostilities and attacks on Odessa will continue.

4. How does it work? Take Hodeida in Yemen. In 2018, from June to November, as part of Operation Golden Victory, the Saudi coalition, with the support of Israel and the United States, fought intense battles against the Houthis, with missile and air strikes, with thousands of dead and hundreds of pieces of destroyed equipment (Saudi and co. raked). All this did not interfere with the process of implementing the agreements (although they were also thwarted) on the entry of ships with food for the starving population of Yemen into the port of Hodeidah. agreements under the auspices of the UN.

So the war is separate, the grain is separate.
The tantrums about the strikes are to try to provide cover for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Odessa with grain export agreements.

Ukraine confirmed that:

1. The missile strikes of the RF Armed Forces did not affect the infrastructure for the export of grain from Odessa.
2. Work on organizing the export of grain from Odessa will be continued.

All morning hysteria is nothing more than steam on a whistle. Rocket strikes on the objects of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Odessa and the Odessa region can and should be continued. The grain will be exported in its own way within the framework of Istanbul-1.

“Drug Rejep” confirmed that the export of grain from Ukraine by sea will begin in the near future. The Turks also say that Russia informed them that there were no strikes on the port infrastructure.
