(CNN) What we learned from the January 6 hearings
cnn ^ | July 23, 2022 | Jeremy Herb

Posted on 07/23/2022 7:51:10 AM PDT by MarvinStinson

The House select committee investigating the Capitol Hill insurrection concluded its series of eight hearings this week with a presentation intended to be the final piece of its narrative puzzle that painted former President Trump as responsible for the violent attack on the US Capitol -- and more broadly, American democracy -- on January 6, 2021.

The committee presented a devastating case that Trump sought multiple avenues to overturn the 2020 presidential election even after he was told he lost, that the former President knew ahead of time January 6 could turn violent, and that he chose not to act when his supporters attacked the Capitol and put the lives of lawmakers -- not to mention his own vice president -- in danger.

The most damning accounts came his inner circle, as multiple former Trump White House aides gave firsthand accounts of the President's unwillingness to accept reality and abandon his delusions about the election.

The committee, which consisted of seven Democrats and two Republicans, relied almost exclusively on testimony from GOP officials and nonpartisan civil servants, in an attempt to rebut criticisms of partisanship. "

For two years, congressional Democrats ran into White House stonewalling while they tried to investigate all aspects of the Trump administration. Beyond some notable exceptions -- notably the officials who came forward during Trump's first impeachment -- the blockade was successful at evading accountability.

Things have been different with the January 6 committee. Former Attorney General Bill Barr said how Trump reacted when he told him the voter fraud claims were "bulls***."

And Meadows aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who testified live in a surprise hearing at the end of June, provided easily the most damning testimony about how she heard Trump say he did not care that the January 6 crowd was armed.

"No Cross Examination. All members of this inquisition are anti-Trump. It’s a joke. A sick joke."

Even as it poses as a court of law, set up to investigate this alleged assault on "democracy," the committee violates every norm of American jurisprudence. To sum it up, there is NO defense allowed. Political show trials have come to America, with the media acting as cheerleaders.

"he did not care that the January 6 crowd was armed"

The "crowd" wasn't armed, a tiny fraction of people were armed - I have only heard of one or two people arrested for possession of firearms in restricted areas on that day. And no shots were fired by anyone in the "armed crowd."

Moreover, if Trump thought people were armed, he would have assumed it was for self-defense against counter-protesters who had a history of roughing up Trump supporters.

RE: “two Republicans”

That important part of this kangaroo court sham is exploited by the leftist media day and night. Supposed to show “good” ones who contrast with the Deplorables who will go to the gulags someday.

How would the Dems like it if they had two DINOs on the dais-——oh, wait, there are no actual DINOs.

A broken clock right twice a day Manchin doesn’t count. They have lockstep control over all in DC. Remember that new Congress member who dared to question Pelosi on one bill and met with Nan followed by the next morning saying she was all in for the Pelosi bill? Makeup artists probably concealed the bruises and cuts on her face.

The only thing the January 6 committee ha shown is the destruction of American democracy.
The only violent attack on the US Capitol was an unarmed woman murdered at point blank range by a capitol hill cop.
The only damning testimony was bogus facts the entire event is a script writers dream come true.

Everyone at the witch hangings thought they were doing the right thing for their cause POWER.

I never have gotten over my disgust with the current crop of media types. I know no one was ever perfectly objective (and slanting and omissions could push any viewpoint) but there was a time when journalists and editors at least tried to be objective. True, in the 1930s William Randolph Hearst finally censored Walter Winchell out of attacking Hitler in his columns because Hearst was naively sympathetic. And those weren’t “news reports.”

But such things were not taught in journalism as good examples.

But a line “investigating the Capitol Hill insurrection” once would have been “which members critical of former President Trump have called an insurrection.”

There is so much not being presented (Ashlii Babbitt’s death, thousands outside who came as honestly expressing free speech disagreement as protected by the Constitution-—as ML King used to do, suspicions of planted federal agents committing crimes, statements contrary to the presented ones which are not allowed on the record....).

There was no legitimate election to “overturn.” The Biden Administration is illegitimate from top to bottom.

Violent attack? Right. This from the same idiots telling me looting and burnings in 2020 were peaceful.

Crock

“if Trump thought people were armed, he would have assumed it was for self-defense against counter-protesters”

I thought that, too. Also Trump probably thought “So what if some are armed. They are mostly on my side and I’m not going to let that threat stop me.”

It’s absolutely pathetic that they think this “surprise witness gotcha” has substance.

I went to the DOJ arrests site a few months back and counted five weapons charges against people, all outside the capitol building. All the charges were for possession of weapons, not use or discharge. Unlike the thousands of antifa and BLM who constantly use violence, burn down entire cities, murder people, and destroy federal buildings all without any consequence.

“We learn absolutely nothing until we find out who Ray Epps is and why he has not been prosecuted.”

More generally speaking, they left a lot out of their investigation. So much was left out that the part about “investigating the January 6 insurrection” was a sideshow to the main theme: bashing Trump.

We are also learning some history in what Soviet show trials were like. Also noted were the disallowance of defense testimony and rebuttal witnesses.

“Cassidy Hutchinson provided easily the most damning testimony about how she heard Trump say he did not care that the January 6 crowd was armed.”

If that’s the MOST damning testimony out of all the testimonies given so far, I have to laugh.

They don’t have reporters at CNN. They have democratic party propaganda agents.

"Unlike the thousands of antifa and BLM who constantly use violence . . . "

So, out of a crowd of 100,000 or more, there were FIVE people charged with weapons offenses, and these people were charged for possession, not use.

I still have some notes from a national police survey done at the end of July, 2020, regarding the BLM riots (which were still ongoing). They reported 624 incidents of arson, 97 police cars burned, 2,385 businesses looted, and 2,037 officers injured. 51% of jurisdictions reported recovering firearms from rioters, 78% rock and bricks, 78% bottles, 68% fireworks, 59% poles and bats, and 46% incendiary devices. But did you EVER hear any media reference to the BLM rioters being armed?
