Ford plans to cut 8,000 jobs to focus on electric vehicles
Washington Examiner ^ | 21 July 2022 | Breanne Deppisch

Ford Motor Co. is planning to cut as many as 8,000 jobs from its internal combustion engine division as it seeks to channel more funding into its electric vehicle division.

The cuts, reported by Bloomberg, follow Ford CEO Jim Farley's previously announced plans to cut $3 billion in company costs by 2026, including through employee layoffs, as well as his efforts to restructure the company radically.

To that end, Farley has separated Ford into two separate units: “Ford Blue,” which focuses on traditional, industrial combustion engine vehicles, as well as the newer “Model E” division that focuses solely on EV offerings.

Though the layoffs have not yet been finalized, they are expected to focus mostly on salaried employees within the Ford Blue division and could begin as early as this summer. The bulk of the cuts is expected to come from the United States, where Ford employs some 31,000 full-time employees.

Why bring a battery to charge a battery?

Think of as a larger version of a powerbank you might use to jumpstart your car or charge your phone. Maybe it makes sense that way.

And how do you know what the power plants on the grid wherever this was charged up are? They could be hydro or nuclear, a couple of conventional technologies that have been around for decades.

A typical gas-driven vehicle has about 30,000 parts, some of these are moving components and others are not.

Most electric vehicles have about 15,000 parts, including both moving and stable parts.

Parts can vary depending on the size of the vehicle and specific technologies included. But, in a direct comparison, all-electric cars should have less parts than any gas-driven vehicle.

Why are Electric Cars More Expensive When They’re Simpler?
In terms of parts, electric vehicles are designed more simply than gas engine vehicles. But, on average, electric cars cost more money than gas engine vehicles.

Electric vehicles are designed simply, but usually encompass more advanced technology than their fuel-driven counterparts.

With a simple design and fewer parts, many car buyers wonder why an electric car is so much more expensive than a gas-engineered car.

When the Republicans take over, they need to (1) ban further conversions and (2) make automakers convert back with appropriate tax incentives. Our way of life is at stake, so ignore libertarian objections.

15K more parts in a gas vehicle. That sounds like hog wash propaganda. Show me the parts lists. The only major difference is in the drive train. Do you count every battery component of every battery in the EV drive train? You can’t just count the battery pack as one component. Lots of times tricks are used to skew the numbers.

EV’s are possible in a few decades; maybe 50 years but in the meantime an EV hybrid with smaller batteries to buffer the power coming from a constant rpm onboard gas powered generator to recharge the 1/4 sized batteries and of course a medium size gas tank for the genny.

Hope they do better than their gas-powered cars. My Toyotas have lasted to 2000,000 miles. I was lucky to get 70,000 out of a Ford.

Biden Celebrates Ford’s Electric F-150, But Allies Worry About Job Losses

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. pledged an electric future for America’s auto industry at a Ford factory in Detroit on Tuesday, but some union leaders expressed concerns that environmental gains from scrapping gas vehicles could cost union jobs.

Congrats, union idiots.

“The pink-slips are flowing at Ford. Last I heard, Ford had 53,000 vehicles awaiting chips.”

I ordered a new 2022 Ford truck January 4, 2022. In April Ford told me I would have to drop two options specified on the order or the company would cancel my order. I could then order a 2023 when Ford begins accepting orders again in September. Today July 21, more than 7 months since I placed the order, the only thing I know is the vehicle has not been put in the production schedule so there is no delivery date. My dealer’s best guess is it may show up in October.

Ford clearly has major issues with production of the fossil fuel vehicles contributing the lions share of its sales and profits. If electric vehicles are more important to Ford than the fossil fuel truck I wish to buy, perhaps I should read the tea leaves, and recognize Ford really doesn’t care about my business. If my vehicle is ever built, my inclination today is to reject the vehicle when it arrives and order a 2023 from Ram or GM. Meanwhile my 11 year old pickup continues to serve my needs.

>>>Now go out there and vote Democrat again.

The fools just don’t see it! Wonderful union busting tool. Tks for the chuckle!

Just saying. Our EV infrastructure is not capable of supporting all those EV’s - just think about how right now we can’t support EV’s esp. in cities.

But didn't the green energy people say that going to EV's would create more jobs?

There’s a lot of townhouse developments in this metro area where there’s a sidewalk between the house and the parking area.

Exactly how anyone is going to charge an EV there without creating a trip hazard is yet to be explained.

That makes me want to buy a truck or Mercedes 300D and get a sticker that reads: "Say No to Gasoline. Get 100% Diesel."

especially if some other company makes the batteries, which are assembled from thousands of parts ...

We wanted a new sedan & decided to buy a Subaru, which I like a lot. Not everyone wants an SUV or truck. I had a Mercury sedan for years & it was a dependable car.

Biden should set up a committee to get automotive builders to make good cheap electrics—even if they can’t do 75 on the freeway—get the price down to %5,000 bucks. Simple electric cars for urban use—The gas ones for long trips (or blackouts) ands the electric ones for day to day use. Give poorer American a chance.

See the video below. Ford and others are only going electric due to rules by the democrats. Not customer wants.

Gas has 13x more energy and takes up far less space.

“People will be bringing gas powered electric generators in their car like a spare tire”

California is banning gas generators in a couple years.
