I am incensed not only by the agents not having a search warrant, but that three agents showed up visibly armed for this “routine” check. What if the gun owner had politely asked to see a warrant as is his right under the Fourth Amendment before allowing them to see his firearms? I presume he would have been arrested on some phony charge and his guns seized. The presence of three visibly armed agents was purely a police state tactic of intimidation.
A better policy - use a video doorbell to interact with the people through a closed door. Then they don’t know where you are and if they can’t show a warrant to the camera (that’s recording,) you tell them to go away and turn off the speaker.
They also accessed NSA tools meant for real terrorists to track down rubberneckers who were invited into the Capitol Building. Obama planted his goons into the lead slots of the faceless bureaucratic agencies and now, while lying low during the Trump years, the rot has thoroughly contaminated the bodies.
Being answerable only unto themselves they no longer give lip service to the Constitution, the laws or the nation's best interests. Just their power, security and money. Trump was right - he WAS in the way between them and us.
“Officer, I would LOVE to help your investigation, but under the advice of my attorney (hands over business card), I will only talk to law enforcement in the presence of my attorney. Please set an appointment with him and he will notify me on what to do next. Thank you, Good day and good bye”.
The ATF can be shuttered.

Splitting technical hairs, but even if they have a warrant, the have no right, they have a power. Govt in this aspect has no rights.

If they had a warrant, you wouldn’t have to answer the door. They would just kick it in and a dozen or so of the Gestapo would enter holding you at gun point and killing your dog if you have one.
And no one has mentioned the fact that the state police were there. Why?
Day by day, law enforcement gives the taxpayer a reason to hate them more and more.
If this gin owner did nothing wrong then they should have politely told the ATF to pound salt up their federal a$$es. Not only that, alert the local Sheriff so he could meet the ATF and ask them why they were there.

Once was code enforcement (had sewer pipe attached to RV while I was sterilizing water tank with vinegar since COVID wrecked their production and safety parameters). Code enforcement guy said, "yes sir, I'll go but you'd make my day easier if you take off the hose. I'll take a pic and everyone will be happy".
Second time was child protective services. She wanted access to my cameras and witness statement for next door neighbor going through ugly divorce. She DEMANDED entry and when I refused she called the Sheriff. Sheriff showed up and told her to leave the property and she WAS an agent of the state just like he was and she needed a warrant".
Have a personal relationship with a lawyer and a CPA. They'll keep you alive and out of jail 98% of the time.
Well in my situation if they do not have a warrant they better be leaving quickly.
