On the morning of May 3, Abby C. burst into tears when she learned a that leaked draft opinion signaled the U.S. Supreme Court would likely overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Before getting out of bed, the 23-year-old booked a consultation to begin the process of getting sterilized. Abby, who did not want to use her last name for privacy reasons, said her previous gynecologist had dismissed her requests, citing her age. But with the leaked opinion throwing the future of reproductive rights into jeopardy, Abby stood firm in her decision.
“I ended up telling her, this is the option I want,” Abby said. “This is the only answer for me.”
It wasn’t until after she woke up from the procedure — a bilateral salpingectomy, in which her fallopian tubes were removed — that she felt relief.
Following the decision in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the once constitutionally protected right to an abortion, young women and others across the country have increasingly requested sterilization, according to obstetrician-gynecologists who have seen an uptick in Arizona, North Carolina, Texas and Florida.

Absolutely true. NO problem with these women getting sterilized .... that many babies lives saved because if they got pregnant, they’d choose pro-death for the baby. Sterilized, they can ‘hook up’ all they want, have sex indiscriminately, & no babies result to be harmed.

I always disliked the idea of having children. For years, almost every time I saw the gynecologist I would say, “Can’t I just be sterilized? I KNOW I don’t want any kids. I don’t like kids and I would be a terrible mom. I KNOW this. Please, can’t we just talk about it?” and I would get a refusal. They would say “If you change your mind, you’ll blame me.” (Since when do they start caring if people change their minds or BLAME THEM or not?)

Anyway, maybe gynecologists are more compliant with patient requests these days.

Don't know about the exact percentage, but it's definitely a big part of what fuels abortion.

The women can get an abortion in other states and in places around the world. She obviously thinks she is unable to avoid pregnancy. The media only hype such ignorant responses.

That's hardly the age where a person should give up on life. So young, with plenty of time to regret. Is this procedure reversible, or is this a permanent situation? Perhaps she would actually want children after she recovers from whatever drove her to this.
Start investing in anti depressants now as in 10 years time, the market is going to explode as it fills with women regretting their foolish now irreversible decision that they chose now that they have hit the wall and their 20s sheen has worn off and the kind of guys that want marriage and children are long long gone. But at least they got to ride the super fun carrousel for their 20s as if that is some kind of accomplishment

Probably a good idea. Don’t need wanting, careless women and men popping up pregnant and then opting to kill their own offspring. Saves both their excess outcomes and prevents abortion. Who’d a thunk making abortion harder ( with caveats) would reduce unwanted pregnancy? It must be rocket surgery and apparently the left are neither scientists or surgeons.

States like CA, NY etc can do what they want, leave the others to do what their constituents want. Fedgov needs to stay in their enumerated powers lane.
