Russia is claiming two significant victories in its ongoing sanctions war with the West, after Canada agreed to waive restrictions on a key gas pipeline component and the European Union clarified its position on the standoff over the Kaliningrad exclave.
"The truth is that some European politicians might be more interested in Russian gas rather than in Ukraine's victory," Oleksandr Merezhko, a member of Ukraine's parliament and the chair of the body's foreign affairs committee, told Newsweek.
Merezhko—a member of Zelensky's Servant of the People party—shared a similar view from Kyiv. "To us it's a dangerous political precedent," he explained. "I'm also concerned that with autumn and winter coming some European countries might display more interest in finding a compromise with Russia regarding supply of Russian gas and oil."

What is even funnier is being threatened on this forum by a non US citizen residing in another country who is willing to fight in Ukraine down to the last US soldier and the last dollar out of the pocket of the US taxpayer.
We have gone over this before. The Ukrainian nation, although occupied by others, goes back centuries, just as the Irish nation existed for centuries before independence. They declared independence in 1917 with substantially the same borders as today, excepting Crimea, and this was recognized by Russia. Specifically, the premise that the pink area was added to Ukraine in 1922 by the Soviet Union is false. This area has a Ukrainian majority and has been recognized as Ukrainian by Russia/the Soviet Union since 1917; it was not taken by Lenin from Russia. The only point that I would concede is Crimea in 1954.
amen
What happened to the organization SANE? The National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy (SANE) was an ad hoc committee originally formed to stimulate debate on the hazards of nuclear testing, SANE soon became a leader in the struggle for disarmament.
The term “nuclear winter” was posed as the real long-term result of an international nuclear warfare exchange, ushering in a new “ice age” from all the dust and debris thrown up into the upper stratosphere.
At least people would no longer be concerned with “global warming” and the rise in sea levels.
Russia is today winning. The Ukrainian Army is getting absolutely decimated. Their best forces, Azov Battalion have been routed and those that weren't killed are now Russian prisoners.
Since 2014 we have equipped the Ukrainian military with the best training and hardware that untold billions of dollars can buy. They are today a proxy NATO army and the Russians are learning everything they need to know about fighting against NATO tactics.
Today the Russian military is the most battle-hardened modern army in the world. Combat veteran American mercenaries are returning home with warnings that this was nothing like Iraq or Afghanistan. We haven't fought an enemy that wasn't wearing sandals since the Korean War.
It is time to end the boomeranging suicide sanctions and make deals to ensure the free flow of fuel, fertilizer, and food.
Very informative graphic. Thanks for posting.
Uh Oh, Zelensky in market to add a new mansion in Florida
-or- big guy needs another 10%.
I'd argue the one exception would be the First Gulf War. But definitely the US hasn't fought a peer or near peer military since then, and definitely has not fought on a total war footing since WW2 imho.
“...Today the Russian military is the most battle-hardened modern army in the world...”
Today the Russian army is the second-best army in Ukraine. Many of their armored personnel carriers have been taken out, not with Javelins or other sophisticated weapons, but with RPG-7s and Cossacks with enough guts to get close and take the shot. The eleven-time-zone country has lost much of its best equipment fighting the one-time-zone country. The Russian army has concentrated so much on looting that it has failed to mind its business and has suffered high casualties gaining few kilometers.
Russia like the West has forgotten how to have children and today Nigeria has a much higher population than expansive Russia. That low-population also means that Russia suffers from spoiled only-child syndrome. These are not the Ivans of the November 19th, 1942 counter-offensive on the flanks of Stalingrad. The Russians have almost four times the population of Ukraine but their Army has not been able to overcome the much smaller opponent.
This isn’t a war.
It’s a mutually agreed upon noisy occupation masquerading as one.
And we’ve done been fooled again.
Here's another.
Perhaps the troll thinks a line or two is a millimeter off. The map’s story is correct.
How ya doin’, Sergei? Enjoying the summer in St. Petersburg? The cherry blinis are great this time of year, aren’t they?
Tell me, who exactly in the Biden administration do you trust to prosecute this war? Names please.
😂😂😂😂 🤮
