Many of those who opposed lockdowns for the pandemic, predicted that the policy — if normalised — could one day be taken advantage of by opportunistic political forces to deal with almost any crisis. It was, as Lord Sumption once suggested, a potential pathway to authoritarianism. “If we confer despotic powers on government to deal with perils, which are an ordinary feature of human existence, we will end up doing it most or all of the time,” he wrote in November 2021.
Well, we are now facing just such a crisis. And there is a not insignificant chance that lockdowns might be revived, not just as a knee-jerk reaction to cope with a prevailing health crisis, but also, troublingly, an economic one.

Election Year Lockdown
It’s not going to go they way they think.
Again........ election year.
They must find a way to circumvent any controls in place at the polls.
This is all talk as a precursor to drop the rule changes.
So the drumbeats begin.
Other voices will join, and a cover for the 2022 Election “mules” will be put in place.
Infuriating to me is that Gov. Whitmer in Michigan did the most totalitarian lockdown in the country and now she is well ahead of the pack for re-election-——not run out of the state in disgrace. Stoooooopid Michigan a-holes.
At the worst (which she later bragged “we are following science” and “my actions saved thousands of lives”) she ordered all indoors at all times unless going to a medical appointment or to get a prescription filled or necessary food.
But closed churches, temples, hospitals except for non elective procedures (not heart tests or surgeries and so on), restaurants and other places. But kept open necessary essential places: marijuana stores (legal in MI) and packaged liquor sales places (said quick cutoff of booze for alcoholics caused domestic and other violence). And all abortion places were open.
She ordered the Michigan State Police to patrol the streets to arrest anyone outside walking or driving. Cop leader with disguised voice on TV and radio said “Regardless of this we are not going to devote officers to such a patrol. There are other much more important ways for us to protect citizens.”
She never identified him.
Now she’s popular (not with Michigan FReepers) and mentioned for President or VP after Biden exits.

Got that right. I will not comply.
This will be the uniparty pretext for unlimited, unmonitored voting by mail again since it worked so well for them in 2020. And if you don’t like it, TOO BAD!
This is a British blogger type magazine site. If you it is applicable to the US and Front Page News, that’s your prerogative, I suppose. I’m not going to wig out over lockdowns myself.
At some point, I expect normal, average, law-abiding citizens to start walking around with baseball bats and any business that tries to issue a virus restriction is going to get re-decorated. And any cops who try to step in are going to be in danger.
People have the power.

Good article, and I agree with its predictions, but it should be under the topic “Editorial” rather than “front page news.”

Do not comply-—period! Defy all this BS....there’s no reason whatsoever this should still be a thing even (after) it’s proven lockdowns don’t do crap.
