The term "pedestrian" has a derogatory meaning because peasants walked while nobles were "equestrians" and rode horses. The industrial revolution eliminated this class difference, as it did so many others, by making car ownership available to the masses until eventually Herbert Hoover was able to boast that "Republican prosperity has reduced and increased earning capacity” to "put the proverbial 'chicken in every pot' and a car in every backyard to boot."
Democrats have spent two generations trying to get those cars out of every backyard.
Biden is trying to bring back Obama's mileage standards that were estimated to raise car prices by 20%.The goal is to "nudge 40% of U.S. drivers into electric vehicles by decade’s end."
Will 40% of Americans be able to afford electric cars that cost an average of $54,000 by 2030?
Not likely. Nor are they meant to. Biden’s radical ‘green’ government, which includes Tracy Stone-Manning, the former spokeswoman for an ecoterrorist group as the head of the Bureau of Land Management, isn’t looking to nudge drivers into another type of cars, but out of cars.
Gas prices are a way to price Americans out of car ownership under the guise of pushing EVs.
Biden's Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm responded to American concerns about high gas prices by urging them to buy electric cars. Granholm, who had promoted a green energy tycoon who spent years in prison for fraud, who had served on the board of directors of an electric battery company, and made millions divesting stock in an electric vehicle manufacturer, is a fan.
"Most electric vehicles are now cheaper to own than gas-powered cars from the day you drive them off the lot," Granholm tweeted.

Same. Now, “Red Barchetta” seems prophetic.
Democrat scum have always dreamed of criminalizing cars.
I too, drive my paid for ICE truck 450-500 miles nonstop and fill it up in 5 minutes. Of course, that assumes my wife isn't with me. LOL
When she's with me, the need to stop every 200 to 250 miles for her to get out and stretch her legs corresponds to the EV's limits before it needs charging, and it takes 20 minutes to do both. Plus, the fast chargers tend to be by areas we'd stop at anyway (i.e. some Walmart's have fast chargers and are good for getting supplies for our cabin getaway as we walk around the store to stretch our legs). So the EV is good when we go on a trip together or she goes by herself to have one-on-one time with her mother or one of our daughters. When it's just me on a trip I'm all about driving my ICE truck just like you.
I agree 100% with your disdain towards the Greta followers. See my post about the Holocene Epoch being the real climate science and that our Modern Warm Period is a big nothing burger. https://freerepublic.com/focus/chat/4077799/posts?page=13#13
Nudge is just the first phase.
They’ll take the same approach as they did with the vax...
They are going to get rid of petroleum operated vehicles. Then they will get rid of Electric vehicles. Then they will get rid of the people they wish. The only question remaining to be answered is how long are they willing to take.
At some point, it will be necessary to “nudge” right back.
The last time a government tried to nudge people, it was into cattle cars.
Please google "thermal inversion".
...maybe you could throw in the part about the business of battery construction and re-cycling being the dirtiest business on the planet Evidently you missed the statement in the post you're replying to where I stated: "Them forcing us into EV's doesn't make sense in a lot of situations and producing EV's isn't exactly a clean process." I'm part of the choir you're preaching to in that regard.
And don’t fail to mention the increase in your home insurance from the increased risk of fire in your garage. Well ain't that special. I asked my insurance about that for both the EV and the solar equipment before I went down this path. No increase in my premiums except for increasing coverage cost (i.e. after a fire or weather hazard I need more payoff to not just rebuild the house but install the replacement solar equipment as well). My insurance premiums don't have an EV hazard rider or solar hazard rider or anything like that. My car insurance premium went up only because I replaced an old used car with liability only coverage with a new more expensive car with full coverage. That's part of the expense I calculated when I did my cost/benefits analysis of the EV and solar project.
Somewhere in there should be the cost of the replacement battery. I can buy a lot of five dollar gas for the cost of a 10,000 dollar battery. My wife and I drove nothing but used cars in our marriage and we replaced each car every 7 years on average. Today now that we're both quasi-retired as far as driving goes, we're sharing the EV for the most port (driving one car except for when we run separate errands or if we need the pickup for pickup chores). So I'm counting the EV costs in retirement the equivalent of replacing the costs of just one of our used cars if both of us were still working. I was about to have to replace her car anyway and was looking to spend about $10K (used car prices have skyrocketed). Then do that again in 7 years. Thus, the initial cost of the EV has an opportunity cost of $10K less than the price I paid (in other words, if I was to have gotten one of the $42K EV's it's a $32K decision since I was going to spend $10K anyway). Then another $10K 7 years from now to replace it with another used car -- vs. spending $10K to replace the EV battery in 10 years. If we compare the EV battery replacement cost with the cost of a new ICE car, hmmm..., that's a good question. The only time in my life I bought a new ICE car was decades ago, and at about 10 years I spent about $3K to $4K in major repairs (roughly $10K in today's money), not counting minor repairs, some of which are in both ICE cars and EV's (i.e. replacing the standard battery, tires, brake pads).
If you're interested in more details on how I used my software engineering analytical background to design a financial and energy plan for making my family a little less dependent on gubment energy crazies, there are more details here: https://freerepublic.com/focus/news/4060059/posts?page=22#22. A few of the concepts to go down this path were learned by an online group called Practical Preppers. I don't see the overall problem they do of the government flipping the switch and completely shutting off our energy sources from us. I predict the government doing it slowly by keeping on making energy too expensive to use. For me, the solar and EV are a larger project to protect our retirement investments from Dim control-freaks using energy inflation.

I agree. Gone are the days where people were weaned from practices by the normal progress of innovation (cars vs. buggies) or societal disapproval (smoking). With Greta breathing down the necks of our leaders, they feel they must force people to change or find ways to punish them.
.
I guess you have not seen a deep dive into total operating costs, the best equivalency figures were at 5.9 mpg for electric.
“(FLIR sensors, that can tell if a child is left in the car, run from $300-$4,000)”
LOL! Probably $15 each in bulk!
“.(I deeply, deeply apologize for not EXPLICITLY describing an Ignition Interlock Device but they run $75-$150)”
I don’t see anyone selling or buying somehow did you get that figure?

What a boring world!!
If the elites achieved this alleged goal, they would all die of boredom!!!!
And they would leave no descendants, so some new life form (fungi?) would take over!!!!
Fortunately, God is still in charge, so that won’t happen! And Christ will raise us up on the Last Day!!!!
https://www.biblegateway.com/verse/en/John%206%3A40
The bidenites won’t last enough to make that happen!
And the “climate emergency” is a scam!!!!
