The carrier was conducting a replenishment-at-sea, which was safely terminated through established procedures. All personnel aboard the ship are accounted for.

One Sailor received minor injuries while conducting operations during the unexpected heavy weather. The Sailor is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery.

USS Harry S. Truman and embarked aircraft remain full mission capable.

I imagine somebody didn’t want lay down their pride flag long enough to tie down their Hornet.

Yes “His”. If she’s man enough to be in the navy, she’s man enough to learn his knots.

And the weather satellites 🛰️ didn’t see it coming?

Or were they too worried about Global Warming?

I think that was gamed to the point we’ll never know for sure.

I sure don’t rule it out, to this day.

They don’t have to tie knots because they don’t use rope. Maybe someone got offended when they were told to put the Strap On.

I am looking to see when the Truman deployed but what I am finding is she was extended in Dec due to the events anticipated and since the Ukraine invasion.

I don’t know the deck status myself, but I can speak from experience of extended deployment in 90/91’ for DS, the non- skid on the flight deck gets worn down to bare metal after 5 or 6 thousand traps. Add a little oil and hydraulic fluid, and you have a surface that is really slick and easy to slide around on. Maybe moving the aircraft in a pitching sea, it got away from the tractor. Brakes cant prevent sliding With a slick deck.

Glad no one was hurt.

Looks like Capt. Gavin Duff owes the USN one F-18.

Yeah probably steel cables. But it sounds like it wasn’t secured properly.

I was working as a contractor at the old Homestead Air Force Station and during the morning site briefing (7 am) the officer in charge told us we had to be under cover by 4:45 pm as a lightening storm would hit at 5:03 pm.

“I quipped - not 5:02?”

“He gave me a stern 5:03!”

We were under cover a bit late (4:50?), but the front and a wall of rain hit at 5:03 pm!

I’m not sure if it is their super-dooper radar or that weather near the coast in Florida is that predictable, but I was impressed.

I find it difficult to believe that it was due to “unexpected” weather. (There’s that word again!)
