Column: Hate the Supreme Court? Our problems actually start with the Constitution
LA Times ^ | BY NICHOLAS GOLDBERG

Posted on 07/08/2022 3:35:44 PM PDT by NoLibZone

So you’re unhappy with the Supreme Court justices who turned back the clock on environmental protection, abortion, school prayer and guns? You’re angry because they’re ideologues with a reactionary agenda, flexing their muscles to eliminate rights, weaken government and endanger the planet?

Me too. They’re reprehensible.

But let’s be honest: The problem isn’t just with the justices. The problem, or at least a substantial portion of it, lies with the U.S. Constitution itself.

Here are some of the criticisms.

The Constitution created the undemocratic U.S. Senate that allots the same representation — two senators — to a state like Wyoming, which has fewer than 600,000 people, as it does to California, with nearly 40 million people.

It established the voting system that allows presidents to be elected who did not win the popular vote.

Democrats liberals and progressives hate the US.

They feel it is on stolen land and has no right to exist.

They are working towards that goal.

That’s part of the brilliance of the founding fathers 🤪

Equal representation - deal with it

Dear Nicholas. Yeah, we’ll let a stupid jackoff like you replace the Constitution. Because that’s just what we need.

A constitutional convention, currently supported by many on the Republican right, would come with grave risks.

Article V ping.

the senate was supposed to represent the STATES, and thus the equal representation!

The smaller states would not have joined, if not given an equal vote.

If they amend it, it will be because a huge majority of us want it amended. There is a process.

At the time, Virginia was the California of the nation. Nicholas believes even though all the states enacted the Constitution, Virginia should have had the controlling say in the new country, and the smaller states would have been cool with it.

They had it right the first time. The 17th Amendment was the catastrophic mistake.

The Constitution created the undemocratic U.S. Senate that allots the same representation — two senators — to a state like Wyoming, which has fewer than 600,000 people, as it does to California, with nearly 40 million people.

That's because the Senate represents the several states, not the people.

The president is not the king of the people, he's the executive of the federation of states. The individual states are the government closest to the people.

The people and the states delegated limited powers to the federation, namely the power to manage interstate commerce, to provide for the common defense, and to speak as one nation to foreign countries.

The Senate was the general assembly of states, and the Senators were the ambassadors of their respective states, sent to Congress to negotiate interstate cooperation regarding state legislative initiatives that might impact neighboring states, or require assets belonging to other states. In such a body, the states have equal representation.

It's the House of Representatives that represents the people, which is why the House has the only constitutionally-created Congressional office, namely the Speaker of the House. The Senate has no such Constitutional role (the others being the President and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court).

But this is too much for the LA Times to understand. Apparently, studying the Constitution is not required to be a journalist these days.

California has 6 to 8 US senators - California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and it's working on invading other nearby states to turn their senators blue.

Is this some kind of test to see if the reporters at LA Times know how to form a sentence and we can grade them, because there is no other reason for this article.

In My Humble Opinion.
