The parents of the suspect who police say carried out the mass shooting in Illinois on July 4 have issued a statement for the first time since the attack.
“We are all mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, and this is a terrible tragedy for many families, the victims, the paradegoers, the community, and our own,” the parents of Robert “Bobby” Crimo III said.
“Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to everybody,” they added.
The brief statement was released by Steve Greenberg, a lawyer who said the parents have hired him to represent them.
Robert Crimo, who lost a Highland Park mayoral bid in 2019, and his wife would like people to “respect their privacy as they try to sort thru this tragedy,” Greenberg said. “The parents share everyone’s desire to figure out everything that went wrong so that this doesn’t happen again, to more innocent people, children, and families,” according to Greenberg, who also said the parents are cooperating with law enforcement.
Crimo III is being represented by two other attorneys, Thomas Durkin and Josh Herman, according to Greenberg. Durkin and Herman did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The motive is not yet apparent, officials told reporters on Tuesday. They also acknowledged that Crimo III was known to police, including an attempted suicide attempt and a warning that the man presented a “clear and present danger” in 2019. But there was not evidence to deny a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) when the suspect applied for one in late 2019, the Illinois State Police said.
Under Illinois state law, a person must have a FOID to obtain a gun.
Police said Crimo III’s father sponsored his son’s application.
Greenberg on Wednesday said the police then renewed the card when Crimo III turned 21 “without any involvement from his father.”
It was unclear if he was living with his mom or dad or in the separate house out back of his dad’s in early 2019 when he threatened suicide and psychologists treated him. Still don’t know when they divorced. Or did they? Was there a custody battle for the kids? We’re they even married? If he was living with his mom that may have been kept quiet between her and the psychologist/s? Or Dad did know and maybe didn’t believe the kid was seriously suicidal, or thought the kid was in more danger driving around by himself to work and such from Chicago area crime than he was to himself. Were there riots in that small town in 2019? I think the guy was still employed in 2019. The second call to the police was in Sept 2019, late in the year. Dad might have already signed for him by then. Evidently no more issues after that with law enforcement , so the kid was able to renew it by himself when he turned 21. Maybe they should require a drug test.

The cops let that card get renewed, in spite of being notified of the threats in 2019 ???
They’re at fault also.
I agree with you. That said, I also think we should stop giving our disintegrating culture a pass. Disaffected people are, I believe, more impressionable by the crud that inundates our airwaves and online 'culture'. It's ugly and it's sick and it's destructive.
One must not discourage Junior...
well, sure the parents think that twink is A-Okay, but the gun store employee who sold him a gun, when the kid looks like a mental case, should be questioned about HIS mental state.
That’s what i meant.
Being experts, they can even choose the topic for you.
MAY be?
lol
That’s right.
I honestly don’t do broadcast TV in my home. There’s movies to watch and some news, and no Facebook for our children who are little either.
“Now the taxpayers of Illinois have to bear the cost of this miserable larvae’s incarceration. Maybe he’ll get the Jeffrey Dahmer execution while in prison: a broken broomstick in the back door ala vlad the impaler.”
We can only hope...
There is a lot more coverage for this event than the Christmas Parade driving massacre in Wisconsin.
Now he has to receive his real test of genius in the prison shower
The father made statements about “I thought my son was collecting guns, that’s all. When I was a boy I collected coins and baseball cards.” But no dresses, I take it...
The father may be committed of a crime by filing a fraudulent background check for his son’s gun.
OTOH, the two are certainly going to be sued thru civil court. What insurance they have is another issue, and even then the insurance company won’t cover it.
Leaving the victims with nothing.
Maybe he hated him and hoped he would off himself
Lets see her in her mormon wear
