A majority of Americans oppose adding more seats to the Supreme Court, in contrast with recent calls to expand the number of justices in the nation's highest court raised by progressive Democrats and members of the public, according to a new poll.
After the Supreme Court voted in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade last week thanks to the support of the conservative supermajority of justices, the idea of expanding the number of seats in the court to re-establish some balance and fairness has been floated. The expansion is legally possible, as the size of the court isn't fixed by the U.S. Constitution and the current number of nine justices is a 150-year-old convention.
But according to an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, 54 percent of respondents do not want to expand the court despite the unpopular ruling issued by the Supreme Court last Friday. Thirty-four percent of respondents said they approved of the court's expansion...

Newsweek is sad.
“Thirty-four percent of respondents said they approved of the court’s expansion...”
That gives an indication of the number of Leftist True Believers in this country. Some of them will grow out of it; the others are lost.
Since when has a public poll mattered to the politicians? I suspect it has been many years, if not decades.
They will just keep polling until they get the answer they want.
It was only an unpopular decision with one segment of society. With another segment of society it was VERY popular. So. What. In the final analysis the popularity or unpopularity of a court decision should be completely irrelevant. It’s not a popularity contest.
Read the comments below the article. The communists are losing their minds.
When the GOP is rewarded with control of the House and Senate this fall, they will be apoplectic!!!
“When the GOP is rewarded with control of the House and Senate this fall, they will be apoplectic!!!”
Should that occur they will be stunned!...because it would mean their election fraud scheme failed!!!
“Unpopular?” Is that verified by research or just by the Newsweak Steno pool?
If the Dems some how manage to scam their way into doing well in the mid-terms the court is going to be packed. They won’t say it now since it’s relatively unpopular with Americans.
Well, then y’all in the cheatin’ states better be prepared to do what you can to stop the fraud, if you want the Senate to be GOP-led and stop the dreams of court-packing.
“...Even After Roe Decision...”
I know it is a surprise, Newsweek author, but outside your leftist echo chamber, MANY Americans DO NOT support abortion. Many are bright enough to realize that the ‘demonrat’ Party’s solution to get back ‘abortion on demand’, and a plethora of leftwing legislation, is to increase the number of judges on the USSC and load it up with leftist jurists. No, Americans want the USA back, NOT the USSA!
If one party can expand it to get favorable political decisions, the other party can, too.
hahaha - BECAUSE of the Roe Decision, you self-deluded idiots!
That will just increase teh Democrats’ resolve to do it.
That’s because most Americans don’t want to see further violations of our rights as confirmed in the Bill of Rights. It has more to do with the Second Amendment, for example, than Roe v. Wade.
