A Staten Island judge of the Supreme Court of New York struck down this law as incompatible with the New York State Constitution. Apparently the Democrats who passed it wanted those holding lawful permanent resident status or US work authorization to be able to vote.
The cover theory being, well, they live here, they pay taxes here, they're here legally, they're affected by government policies - no taxation without representation, right? So let's give them representation.
The actual theory probably being, well, if we do something for them, they'll do something for us, like vote Democrat! lol
But I don't think that actual theory has been working too well in the past. Plenty of those whose parents came here illegally have become citizens and vote Republican, I'm pretty sure. And the cover theory actually makes sense to me. We tax them; the economy benefits from their contributions; shouldn't they have a say in government? I think they should. Well; the judge disagreed.
Going to vote now in the Republican Primary for Zeldin.
How the hell did it ever become a law in the first place?
The Demonicrats who voted for that law gave aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States.
👍
Familiar with a pocket veto?
The chief executive does nothing and the bill is vetoed.
In NYC the opposite is true.
If the mayor (or borough president?) does nothing, the bill becomes law.
Why do we have to find this out from Al Jeezera?
“Why do we have to find this out from Al Jeezera?”
Al Jazeera is the best news organization on the planet, I think. It’s my go-to, every day news source - and I got it from them, so I passed it to you. Simple as that.
I wasn’t dissing you or your post. US press sucks
