Mitt Romney isn't up for reelection this year. But Trump-aligned Republicans hostile toward the Utah senator have made his name a recurring theme in this year's primaries, using him as a foil and derisively branding their rivals “Mitt Romney Republicans."
Republicans have used the concept to frame their primary opponents as enemies of the Trump-era GOP in southeast Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The anti-tax group Club For Growth, among the most active super PACs in this year's primaries, used “Mitt Romney Republican” as the central premise of an attack ad in North Carolina's Senate primary.
But nowhere are references to Romney Republicanism as common as they are in Utah. Despite his popularity with many residents here, candidates are repeatedly deploying “Mitt Romney Republican” as a campaign trail attack in the lead-up to Tuesday’s Republican primary.
“There are two different wings in the Republican Party,” Chris Herrod, a former state lawmaker running in suburban Utah’s 3rd Congressional District, said in a debate last month.
“If you’re more aligned with Mitt Romney and Spencer Cox,” he added, referring to Utah’s governor, “then I’m probably not your guy.”
The fact that his brand has become potent attack fodder reflect how singular Romney's position is in U.S. politics: He's the only senator with the nationwide name recognition that comes from being a presidential nominee and the only Republican who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump twice.

Now?
Has been in my household for a decade.
Primary is Tuesday
Not as descriptive as Bush League Republicans, but it still gets the message across.
He may be a douschebag but he’s our douschebag! </sarc>
Yes. I am in the same boat. Of course, we have the execrable Charlie Baker, who I believe is just as bad.
I prefer calling them the McRomBush Cabal!
That’s only because Mitt Romney is a Mitt Romney Republican
“Of course, we have the execrable Charlie Baker, who I believe is just as bad.”
Yes. Perfect description. John Adams used to use that word to describe the Stuarts.
We won’t have to hear his incessant droning way of speaking after January.
Romney is the #1 recipient of NRA money, and it isn’t even close at all.
He got around $13 million dollars.
The NRA is a coopted organization it seems
I prefer to think of him and his ilk as a gallon of potable water with a few cups of sewer water dumped into it.
I’ll see your Charlie Baker and raise you on John “Wayne” Cornyn. How do ya like them apples?
“Sigh. I hear people around here speak about Charlie Baker as the wonderful centrist who shows Republicans and Democrats can work together.”
He’s a liberal Republican, so it’s not difficult for him to work with liberals. He believes in the same thing.
Their line of thinking is so stupid.
“Dog on the Roof Republicans”
I heard from a reliable source that he never paid his taxes!(/s)
Romney was the fourth republican governor in a row, he was a failure at it, he left with 34% approval and turned the state over to a democrat governor, and for some reason the GOP decided he was the man to take the presidency by storm.
Mittens is kind of person who actuaaly should not be re- elected.
Already a multi- millione he enters
govt. He figures he can be a influencer
as a moneybags. He brings in or
has contacts with unsavoury individuals
who are lobbyists, etc..and to network on their
own personal agendas in filling their personals &-to influence our
gov in a way that it not for the benefit
of the US
Think about it- he is only in this for
PERSONAL POWER because its certainly not
for the money...
...these types need to be routed out and
heartily dismissed... and term limits
need to be established if there are people like him or not- all across the board.
I am fed up with this place. There are a lot of real conservatives here, but we are a garden hose and ignorant Leftists are a 100 psi shipboard fire hose.
