I have very complicated feelings about Donald Trump right now (pantywaist contemplates)

Trump didn’t simply tarnish the GOP brand in certain circles — that’s a very temporary thing, and Republicans of all stripes had done plenty to tarnish the brand on their own. Trump habituated Republicans and conservatives into conspiracy-theorizing, into lib-owning as the highest undertaking, and into defending corruption and abuse of power.

Yet Trump brought about the end of Roe. That is something every prior Republican decidedly couldn’t do or refused to do.

The majority in Roe included five Republican appointees. The majority in 1992 upholding Roe in Planned Parenthood v. Casey included five Republican appointees. Pro-life voters were told endlessly to elect Republican presidents and senators in order to overturn Roe, and again and again, after Souters and O'Connors and Kennedys, this proved folly. Even George W. Bush, the closest thing to a religious Right president, didn’t give us two reliable votes against Roe.

It took, of all people, Trump to give us a majority more wedded to the Constitution than to abortion.

No issue in politics is more important than abortion because no cause is more righteous than protecting innocent babies from slaughter. No president did more good on abortion than Trump. So this makes things complicated.

How is a pro-life conservative who is fully aware of Trump’s crippling vices and his lasting harms to feel today?

One relevant question is whether a different Republican nominee would have yielded as good results, Supreme Court-wise, in 2016 through 2020 as Trump did. First, would Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, John Kasich, or Ted Cruz have beaten Hillary? Maybe anybody with a pulse would have defeated that obviously corrupt, thoroughly unlikable, entirely opportunistic politician. Then again, maybe it took Trump's unique appeal to the working-class voter in order to carry Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in 2016.

In the words of Spiro Agnew, Timothy P. Carney is among an "effete corps of impudent snobs."

They were ALL so wrong. But they STILL can't admit it.

THEIR preferred candidates would have FAILED (and did).

But OUR preferred candidate succeeded beyond all expectations.

But since he did it while having the effrontery to tweet mean things about Mitt Romney, he was SOOO uncouth! And we STILL can't bring ourselves to get behind him.

So laughable!

Go vote for the Democrats you clink glasses with at the cocktail parties, Tim. We'll run the country from here on.

I was against Trump during the primaries, preferring Cruz.

I voted for Trump, twice. He did what Obama said could not be done.

I hope to vote for him a third time.

Yup, I was wrong and Trump was right.

Excellent Agnew quote, and I’d like to add that Carney appears to be a Republican fag.

Illiterate first paragraph is consistent with author’s feeble-mindedness.

“ Trump habituated Republicans and conservatives into conspiracy-theorizing, into lib-owning as the highest undertaking, and into defending corruption and abuse of power.”

You mean Lib-owning isn’t what’s best in life?

I am like you.

I did not prefer President Trump from the beginning. It was only after he won the nomination that I saw the light. He was giving a stump speech and I listened - not watched - it while it was on television. I layed in a bed with my eyes closed listening to him and for the first time I heard a Republican candidate lay out what he was going to do as President. No platitudes but specific plans. This was in October, about a month before the 2016 election. For the next month I saw him doing 3-5 campaign stops per day while Hillary did 1-2 per week.

I also hope to vote for him a third time.

“We need someone who can DEFEAT them at that game. Trump has proven that he cannot do so. He is what he called McCain: a loser.”

So says Sam Adams. Proud holder of a participation trophy since 1998.

The Bush crime family and other RINOs have treated you pro-lifers as FOOLs for decades. They claimed to be pro-life to get your votes and your support, then they gave us Souter, Miers, Roberts and scum like Paul RYNO fully funded Planned Parenthood.

But TRUMP DELIVERED! Promises made, promises kept!

Anyone who does not fully support President Trump in 2024 is an absolute FOOL!

Like the Jan 6th "hearings" the SCOTUS rejection of Roe v Wade that happened yesterday will be yet another litmus test of who is really pro-life and conservative.

Many "conservatives" hid behind the false notion and security of Roe being the "law of the land" and stated they were pro-life and voted squishy. Now with Roe gone they will need to actually stand out in the open with no cover.

Truth divides the wheat from the chaff.

Let's see who had the guts to stand up for life. As much as I don't care for Kevin McCarthy he did state that if the GOP wins in Nov they will pursue a 15 week abortion ban. It's a good start.

The other organization that will be affected will be the Catholic Church. Archbishop Cordileone has fired the first shot before the SCOTUS ruling. Now that the politicians are going to have to publicly state if they are for or against abortion it will be up to the prelates of the Church to stand up as well and defend the faith and call the faithful to conversion on this issue.

Partner, it is very laughable when the DemonRats have to go after President Trump like there is no tomorrow.

These people are DemonRats and they have some lost some brain cells in their "Giant Sixth Grade Brains"!!!

Romney will not be the next senator from Utah, since Romney is the biggest joke on us all.

… Trump’s crippling vices and his lasting harms…

It would strengthen your argument if you would list the vices and harms.

He mentions ‘crippling vices’, ‘lasting harms’, and calls Trump ‘foul’ - but explains none of those.

I think this guy just had to write an article.
