Adoption agencies could see increase in demand after Supreme Court ruling

(WHNT) — Expecting mothers seeking abortion might be forced to pursue other options after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark cases legalizing abortion nationwide.

Adoption has always been an option, but with the possibility of too many children and not enough homes to care for them, how will adoption agencies adapt to this shift in society?

News 19 spoke with local family service and adoption providers to learn how they plan to continue helping future mothers who might not be in a stable situation to care for a baby.

Herbie Newell, the president and executive director of Lifeline Children’s Services, says the Supreme Court’s decision doesn’t change the course of their ministry, or their mission to provide expecting mothers with the utmost support.

“To families that have been willing to foster to adopt and to support women and children, I can’t imagine that in North Alabama,” Newell told News 19. “We’re not going to have an overabundance of families willing to help meet the need of women in crisis.”

Newell says Lifeline has always had more families prepared to adopt than children.

The agency was able to find homes for over 50 children nationwide last year and has made 10 family matches in 2022.

Using Christ as a foundation to provide stable homes for children and an easy transition for expecting mothers, helps ensure that the child and mothers needs are met.

“You know, a mom finds herself in an unplanned crisis pregnancy, she doesn’t know where to turn,” said Jessie Jacobs, a social worker and church partnership coordinator. “The fear would be that she doens’t have any options.”

“With pregnancy counseling, a mother can reach out to Lifeline… and the first question isn’t going to be ‘okay, sign away, we’re going to adopt,'” Jacobs continued. “The first question is going to be ‘how can we best support mom?'”

Programs and counseling sessions are available for mothers and families looking to adopt. Domestic cases also grant the birth mother decision-making opportunities when picking the perfect family.

Jacobs added that a big part of Lifeline is creating space for birth mothers to keep in touch with their children and create reunification opportunities.

We waits 4 years to adopt our son. The biggest issue with the system is when birth parents don’t sign away their parental right to allow adoption. Then the kids go into foster system that is all screwed up.

Hopefully all the leftists who left blue states to avoid taxation and live a more economic existence will migrate back to have easy access to killing babies

According to the disgruntled harpies it will only result in more back alley coat hanger abortions.

Good time for churches to work together to celebrate life and change the culture of death.

Perhaps that will change, e.g. people who would have aborted now have the baby and sign away all rights.

After cults are disbanded, there is a process of re-education where those people who lived under totalitarian rule had to be taught about life as it is. I'm sure a similar situation existed when Prohibition was repealed - years of no booze gave way to a new life. Same with slavery - I'm sure after the 13th Amendment many slave owners had to re-learn the process of hiring and paying laborers.

Same thing here. The last step of have sex-get pregnant-drive to Planned Parenthood and abort needs to be re-learned. Maybe some of the previous steps need to be reconsidered as well.

Here's what I'd say to the "we can't live without abortion" crowd. You had to live differently from 2020-2021 due to covid. It sucked but we did it. In fact you told us we HAD to do it. If this nation can work remotely, wear masks, socially distance, blah blah blah, you can reimagne pregnancy without abortion.

Yes, this momentous change is a perfect opportunity to get the adoption business up and running again in this country. When I was a girl, there were a couple of classmates we knew were adopted. It made them rather special, knowing that someone wanted to love and nurture a child enough that they would take in somebody else’s unwanted child. Our out-of-control legal system and buttinski culture has made adoption a nightmare.

One of my siblings made a tidy sum off selling, uh, making an adoption arrangement with some people. At first it seemed kinda cool. I wonder now if it was such a great thing.

I really doubt this will be the case, however. What is more likely to happen is that lazy, careless women who don’t want to reproduce will start being a lot less lazy, a lot less careless.

Ten bucks says that this nation’s Maoists would see this as a despicable consequence of a despicable ruling. However,a child born to a woman (parents, actually) who are unable or unwilling to raise a child properly that, then, turn him/her over to an adoption agency is potentially *wonderful*. Assuming that child is adopted by a decent couple who intend to raise him/her lovingly it is absolutely *wonderful*!

More babies born and available for adoption instead of being slaughtered in the womb?

That’s a good problem to have, isn’t it?

Just think, without Roe v Wade there would be 20 or 30 million more blacks and most of them would be voting age or close to it.

The irony is that republicans want to end the slaughter of babies in the womb (black and white), and democrats want to keep on killing them.

Yet blacks (who want more political power) continue to vote for democrats in overwhelming numbers.

Adoption agencies are going to start taking in non-viable bundles of fetal tissue? Because I’ve been told by reliable sources in the media that that’s all that is affected by abortions.

Not likely to happen. Instead, California will become a Disney like abortion destination. Fun in the sun and kill your baby, in an all inclusive package with discount airfare.

The cost and hassle of adopting is criminal. There are plenty of kids who could use a good home, but the courts, attorneys and birth parents have the system clogged.

whoever wants an abortion will get their damned abortion....it will be readily available....

but this decision will perhaps be a step back from the caustic disregard for life that exists....

maybe govt will stop pushing killing the unborn and start suggesting adoption instead.....I hope so....

The purpose of denying abortion is about the sanctity of life in the State. The State(s) are protecting a life that resides by extension of the mother in the womb within said State. To kill the baby in the State would be illegal. Because Conservative States can be seen as providing legal protections for the unborn, a resident mother who goes to another State for abortion is terminating a protected life.

Legislation should be put into law that states residents of the State protecting the sanctity of life of the unborn extends to full term birth and delivery.

A mother terminating a life in another State would be breaking the law that protects the sanctity of life. In fact mothers who abort unborn babies in States apart from their residence should be charged with third-degree murder manslaughter.

The intent of abortion laws are to protect life in this case - if the mother wants to move another State where murder/abortion is legal then so be it.
