Donald Trump said the overturning of the landmark Supreme Court decision giving women the right to abortion "will happen, automatically," if he is elected president and gets to appoint justices to the high court.
"I am pro-life," Trump said during Wednesday night's presidential debate when asked whether he wanted that decision, Roe v. Wade, reversed by the Supreme Court.
Trump said that if the ruling were to be reversed, laws on the legality or illegality of abortion would "go back to the individual states" to decide, which was the case prior to Roe v. Wade.
But when moderator Chris Wallace pressed him on whether he wanted the ruling overturned, Trump said, "That will happen, automatically in my opinion," because he would get to nominate potentially several justices to the court.
In response, Hillary Clinton said, "I strongly support Roe v. Wade."
"I will defend Roe v. Wade, I will defend a woman's right to make her own decision," Clinton said.
She criticized Trump for having said in the past that a woman should be punished if she got an abortion when it was made illegal.
Trump fired back, saying Clinton was in favor of partial-birth abortions being legal, which meant that a fetus could be "ripped out" of a mother's womb a day before she was due to give birth.

IF it’s overturned, it wasn’t just because of Donald Trump.
It will be overturned because it was NEVER a Federal right to make the decision. The people should make the decision. We the people come closest to democracy at our state representative and state legislature. There is where the decision belongs, should have always been, and Constitutionally where it was supposed to be (Tenth Amendment). No politician overturned Roe v Wade. No individual politician or Justice or Judge will make it illegal to get an abortion.
States, with the consent of the Governed and the people will make that decision.
To those who protest Democracy, in their night of rage, you are protesting peoples voices because you don’t like their decisions, but you want your decisions respected. Instead of ‘Raging’ get out and force your DNC party White house, House, and Senate to pass a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT that can be voted on by the people and the States. That’s democracy! That’s the Republic, that’s the way the system is supposed to work. Not 5 people imposing their political will upon the masses.

Well, regarding “gay” marriage, someone has to bring a lawsuit over that issue. Are any cases in the pipeline on that subject?
It’s important to note, that the Supreme Court doesn’t issue decrees on issues. They issue opinions on cases brought before them. So on marriage, someone, somewhere, would have to bring a case to try to overturn same sex marriage. I don’t know if any cases are in the pipeline. If not, then the Court will not do anything about same sex marriage.
I suspect he’s not the only liberal who mentally breaking down, yesterday the 2A was strengthened and Roe v. Wade is history.....

Well, I know people on this site hate Mitch MoConnell, so there’s that. He should get whatever credit he deserves for marshalling the Trump appointees through the Senate confirmation process. Some who hate him give him no credit, so there’s that.

The headline makes it appear Trump was reckless with the power of his office and the only reason for nominating one to the USSC was in order to overturn ROE, and that is not true either.
