While a warming climate could spell disaster for countless snow-loving species, an ice-free Arctic artery could also offer critical trade alternatives to the Russian-controlled Northern Sea Route, a new study has found.
Climate models indicate that parts of the Arctic Ocean that were once blanketed in ice year-round are now warming so rapidly that they will likely be iceless for months on end in as soon as two decades, according to the study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

How many times in recent history that idiots have tried the Northwest Passage when it was open, only to be caught in ice when the weather decided to get cold and make the Passage freeze over?
The climate models predicted that by now ships would be transiting the Northwest Passage in a virtually ice free shipping route. This is old news.
Then added a 2500 gallon propane tank recently to make sure the swimming pool would be 85 degrees.

Arctic sea ice so far is not melting any more than usual. Modals say a lot of things, almost all of them wrong.
