Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer who smashed women's records this year, will be banned from competing against women in international events after the world swimming's governing body announced that it will bar transgender athletes who went through male puberty.

FINA, the international federation sports federation for swimming, announced on Sunday that it is changing its policies so that transgender women can only compete in women's races if they have completed their transition by the age of 12.

They will then have to prove to the federation that they have continuously suppressed their testosterone levels since that time.

They should insist on a DNA test for each competitor. Let the DNA test determine which races they will compete in. No “Open” class, no fooling around, no accommodation.

My sister did swim on the high school varsity team and earned a letter. No silliness in the early 70s.

It was a co-ed team, but the events were separate for men and women.

And our former Marine DI coach didn’t cut us girls any slack in workouts. Nor did we expect it.

If your child wants a pony and you live in an apartment, do you just go ahead and get it for him? No, of course not.

But common sense just seems to fly out the effing window when it’s about teh geyz. Giving a young child hormones and then surgery to “complete the transition” is - as almost everyone else here thinks - child abuse.

That’s not like an exaggeration or overstatement: It’s exactly true. It would be the same as getting your kid a pony if you lived in an apartment - except there would be a hundred factors preventing your dumb a$$ from going through with it: Local laws, your landlord, the other tenants in the building, your adult friends and family - especially Junior’s grandmas and grandpas - and so on and so on. You’d probably get cited for animal cruelty first if you even managed it, and eventually they would think of child endangerment charges as well. But hey, load him up on hormones, let him “tuck” his d1ck and grow out his hair - oh, how fun! The doorman is instructed to call him “Cassie” instead of “Kenny” - sure, haha, why not? It’s cute!

Kids do not have the sense or ability to see into their later life and the consequences they will be facing - alone, without help from parents or community like as not - as a result of STUPID parents guiding them into terrible, life-altering decisions that can never be undone.

Our swim team was co-ed too. I skipped form 10th to 12th grade in consecutive years, so even though my sister is 2 years younger, we never attended high school together. She leveraged my work with the district to define a senior by credits completed rather than semesters attended, thus her graduation in 75 instead of 76 with her age peers. She found time for the swim team and sat first seat in the flute section of the band.
