A police officer in Naperville, Illinois, pulled over a driver for a minor traffic violation when another vehicle pulled up beside him traveling in the opposite direction, according to WSPY News. A man then got out of that stopped car and charged at the officer with a hatchet.
The officer had been on the scene for over 11 minutes, according to the Naperville Police Department. There’s no way he could have been expecting a man to attack him for no apparent reason.
The officer, a 22-year veteran of the NPD, promptly shot and killed the assailant. The deceased man was identified as 28-year-old Edward C. Samaan, of Naperville.
The officer’s body camera captured the frantic seconds when he opened fire. The NPD released the body and squad car camera footage of the officer-involved shooting earlier this month.

The tweekers are ricocheting things all around. You gotta watch ‘em. There was one guy, completely whacked, talking gibberish, chucking a hatchet. Didn’t bother me, much, but one of the others cracked him on the head with a machete, later that day.

I admire how quickly the officer reacted. And none of that baloney about trying to talk hatchet-man out of it. With any delay, the officer would have been seriously wounded or killed.

.. Naperville? It’s a pretty wealthy area... That doesn’t mean crazies don’t live there, but they generally get the help they need if they do.

If the policeman saves the state the trouble and expense, so much the better. Put a little something extra in his envelope at the end of the week.
Back in the 1970s, Second Chance, the first mass producer of effective and "concealable" body armor, marketed directly (and as secretly as possible) to LEAs. They had a motto, "The best way to enforce capital punishment on would-be cop-killers ... is to return fire effectively."
And if an LEO was shot in their vest an still managed to kill his assailant, they would replace the vest and give him a nickel-plated S&W Model 19 as a door prize.
