Barr: Trump became 'detached from reality' after 2020 election loss

Former Attorney General William Barr told the Jan. 6 committee that former President Donald Trump lost touch with reality following his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden and showed no interest in evidence that disproved his wild claims of voter fraud.

“Before the election it was sometimes possible to talk sense to the president,” Barr said. “But I felt that after the election he didn’t seem to be listening.”

“There was never an indication of interest in what the actual facts were.”

Barr concluded that Trump, who insisted without evidence that voter fraud had cost him victory in the election, had become “detached from reality.”

Barr, one of former Trump’s most powerful allies during his term of office, related his growing concern and frustration with Trump after the election. He testified about conversations he had with Trump from late November until he resigned in mid-December.

The claims made by Trump and his allies were “not meritorious,” Barr said of the conspiracy theories put forth following Trump’s election defeat.

Meadows and Kushner reassured Barr, that Trump would not keep making unsubstantiated claims for much longer.

“We're working on this,” Kushner said, according to Barr.

Barr then decided to speak out publicly and rebut Trump’s falsehoods. The allegations of votes being switched by Dominion voting machines or software were “idiotic,” Barr said.

“I thought, If he really believes this stuff, he’s become detached from reality,” Barr added.

"...Barr said the claims made in the film were “indefensible.”..."

Gee. How then does that flabby POS Barr say this is 'indefensible'?

I would like to see RNC head Ronna Romney McDaniel testify and perhaps President Trump would realize very few if any of his picks support his election fraud claims or him.

I feel bad for President Trump and still support him. He is very much the Tragic Hero Victor David Hanson wrote about. The key part being the inability to see or fix what brings these people into his orbit.

Bill Barr wrote in his book that he told Pompeo he would just bring up the Russia Hoax to distract Trump when the President asked about things not getting done in other areas….One big con job, as Barr testimony shows with a complete lack of respect for Trump….

As I said years ago, Barr was just a worthless swamp frog, riding out his lily pad, as safely - and while expending as little effort - as possible to retirement. After working for worthless bureaucrats as a private contractor, they become easy to spot very early on.

Trump had maybe 5 allies in his administration. He really should have filled his cabinet with unvetted Americans from states where he was very well supported. Random people who had good intentions would have done a much better job. Why does the AG have to be a Washington “elite”? Same with every cabinet position. I’m sure there a number of people on FR who would do just fine heading the DOD.

And your point is what?

That at that point, on December 14, 2020, that Trump didn’t need Barr as any kind of ally past that point and could simply have blasted him with both barrels and expected to be able to forge ahead?

Barr, one of former Trump’s most powerful allies during his term of office

Yeah right

The allegations of votes being switched by Dominion voting machines or software were “idiotic,” Barr said.

Yet it was just proven that this very thing happened in GA recently. When a hand count was done, 3rd and 1st place got swapped from what machines said.

Personally, I think it was a combo of many cheats. Machines(3-4am bump), fake ballots, fraudulent ballots, multiple ballots by same person(early and often), humans recording or "correcting" ballots, ballots run through multiple times.

Excellent point. Random citizens who actually voted FOR Trump might not know all the Washington Swamp Tricks, but they would be trying to support rather than thwart his policies.

“Barr said that he still has not seen any evidence of a stolen election”

He is a liar. I have no doubt he has seen the evidence.

And who hired that swamp creature? And inept one before him? Bad hires are the fault of the leader, not the one employed/appointed.

What a strange photo!

Dementia J looks 40 years younger.

Bagpipes looks 100 lbs lighter.

And leaky looks exactly the same!

Barr is loyal to Barr. He still lives and works in DC. He didn’t want to get cancelled.
