New report finds Shroud of Turin dates back to the era of the earthly ministry of Jesus, contradicting 1988 evidence dating cloth as being centuries newer.
New scientific procedures says fabric in the shroud is about 2,000 years old.
The study also analyzed traces of pollen on the shroud.
“The pollen samples gathered are from plants that are native to not just the Middle East, but specifically the area around Judea, Palestine, and Syria within that time period,” said Brian Hyland, curator at Museum of the Bible.
“There’s also pollen from the area around Constantinople. There’s a lot of pollen from Europe,” suggesting the shroud traveled from the Holy Land through [now Turkey and France] to its current home in Italy since the 16th century.
“The only single sample they took did not represent anywhere else on the cloth because it had been manipulated,” said Barrie Schwortz.
Schwortz, who is Jewish, pushed back on claims the shroud was a creation of Leonardo DaVinci.
“The Shroud has been publicly shown 100 years before da Vinci was born. He was a good artist, but he wasn’t that good.”
Schwortz said that until he saw the shroud, he was “biased against it.”
“I even said, somewhere along the line to somebody that, you know, we’ll get to Turin, we’ll give it five minutes, we’ll find the paint, we’ll come home, we’ll be done.”
There is no paint on the cloth, however.
British David Rolfe new film, “Who Can He Be,” said his team produced a 3D image from data from the fabric. “The only way that the image could’ve got on to that cloth is a miraculous one. A miracle that emanated from the body with unbelievable amounts of energy but within an infinitesimally short space of time.”

Then, I want no part of your religion. You’re going to disagree with me on some other matter

Huh? I was referring to my agreement with your own comment!
There is a lady who predicted the approximate ages that the carbon dating would give based on the area of the French weave being tested.

Yeah, I figured you were a troll.

No one has EVER claimed that anyone needs a should to believe in the resurrection. The should does not prove a resurrection of any kind and no one has ever claimed that it does.
This isn’t news to me.
Didn’t we discuss this last year?
I don’t agree with some of your comments on this thread but this comment is true. I have all the proof of my savior, son of God, the Christ, redeemer of my sins … already. I have a personal relationship with God. For that I am ever thankful.
I also marvel at the image, and think that it *might* be Him. I don’t need to to believe in Him, though.
There are religious hucksters out there who claim it’s proof. I simply ignore them.
I’m a forensic scientist, and I’m convinced it’s really Him!
Uncharacteristically, I emailed my friends with my opinion. Great job by the lead investigator.
To your list, I would also add the fact that the actual image depicted on the Shroud is only on the uppermost surface of the cloth’s fibers; it doesn’t permeate deeper down like paints or other chemical-based materials would have, given the artistic technology available at the time.
Have you ever bothered to actually read the physical evidence for the Shroud being genuine (not man-created)?
The amount of evidence is dispositive of argument.
That is, unless you have been persuaded in advance that any miracle or relic must by definition be false.
To those on the thread remarking about how they “don’t need the Shroud” to believe in Jesus, and that the Bible was all they ever needed: good for you.
But let’s not forget that the Gospels themselves record that one of the Apostles — Thomas, who lived and travelled with Jesus, learning from Him, for over two years — would not believe that Jesus had Risen until he witnessed the wounds on His resurrected body! Without proof, he would not countenance the idea that Jesus was no longer dead.
For many people who did not learn of the Christian religion from their family or their local church, they would not accept the possibility of the Scriptures being true without evidence of some kind.
So you have historical evidence and context clues regarding how Christianity arose in Antiquity, and how it arose from the ancient Judaic religion. You have the age of all the various manuscripts and testimony of eyewitnesses. And of the physical relics which do exist...you have something like the Shroud of Turin, whose composition is impossible to duplicate with even modern technology.
So don’t mock or sneer at the idea that the presence of physical evidence can be of comfort, or a source of gladness...because I’m fairly certain that for some people, the presence of inexplicable evidence like the Shroud would open their minds to the possibility that the Bible isn’t just a collection of fables (as is all too common a sentiment today), that there might be something to it. The Shroud could very well be the catalyst for some to finally lose their hardness of heart and accept the grace of God, thus becoming open to the true supernatural virtue of Faith in Christ.
That’s not small potatoes, and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise, particularly in this age of materialistic paganism and nihilistic atheism.
Modesty: Well....hand placement would have been done by those who buried Jesus. Their sense of dignity and modesty dictated the placement.
Romans 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
Romans 8:25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Yes. I’ve read a lot on it, it basically says what the other articles have said for years but it’s nice to have an article come out and state it again, for those who have constantly said, ‘it’s only 500 years old or something, it’s paint, blah blah blah’.
It’s a miracle for us.
There’s a reason that the book of Acts and the Epistles say nothing about the preservation the the burial linens:
Jesus Christ’s emphasis was this: “... blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (from John 20:29)
And this: “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:7,8
You can believe that someone has given you a new car, just make sure it has the engine in it, otherwise there is no power. Acts 2:38 details how to get the power.
