Major U.S. city's plan to spy on citizens draws fierce opposition

Plans by the city of Houston to require businesses to install surveillance cameras – and then give police access – has drawn a warning letter from a second civil-rights organization.

WND reported in May when the Institute for Justice warned city officials the spy plans were unrealistic and illegal, because they would be in violation of the 4th Amendment.

Now the Rutherford Institute is raising related concerns.

The civil and religious rights organization said the city's "Exterior Security Cameras Ordinance" is nothing more than a "thinly veiled attempt to evade oversight and accountability for Fourth Amendment violations."

The ordinance was adopted in April and demands businesses install a citywide digital surveillance system that can be accessed by police without a search warrant.

The city is requiring that police be given access to the round-the-clock surveillance network whenever they ask.

The ordinance was adopted in April and demands businesses install a citywide digital surveillance system that can be accessed by police...

Assuming the police will not compensate the businesses for the cost of developing and deploying this system, this is a clear violation of the takings clause of the fifth amendment.

Do the Dems think this “endangers our democracy”? Or are they okay with this?

This is really Orwellian and I cannot believe it is being proposed in Texas, of all places.

Why not just skip the business and go straight to what they really want? Require every person in the city to have smart phone clipped to their chest like a police body cam and the video recorder streaming to the police station 24x7?

As anyone who was paying the slightest bit of attention during the COVID “lockdowns” knows, Democrats are strongly inclined to totalitarian government.

digital surveillance system

Klaus Schawb approves

Next step would be to connect it to your ESG score and then Central Bank Digital Currency. You shall behave if you want to eat. You'll need to be up to date on your mRNA jabs too.

Interesting… I always thought of Texas as conservative except for Austin, but I’m obviously wrong or out of date.

Texas is slower than some and at least they didn’t slip it in like other Governor’s during covid. Here’s the current amount globally and U.S, expected to grow leading up to 2025. https://www.securityinfowatch.com/video-surveillance/article/21247833/why-smart-cities-will-accelerate-videos-move-to-the-cloud

Don't sell Houston's home-grown ghetto culture short.. This stuff originated long before Katrina and has been increasingly observed in other cities across the country. Houston may be the most aggressively expanding variant of thug culture today.
