If you want to adopt a dog or cat from this Southern California animal shelter, you have to be 25, prove you can provide a pet with a good home — and support gun restrictions.
Membership in the NRA is a deal breaker, said Shelter Hope Pet Shop owner Kim Sill.
“We do not support those who believe that the 2nd amendment gives them the right to buy assault weapons,” Sill wrote on a website for the shelter in Thousand Oaks, California, about 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles. “If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.”
Sill added, “If you lie about being a NRA supporter, make no mistake, we will sue you for fraud.”
Sill, in an interview with NBC News, said quite a few donors to her shelter are Republicans and some have threatened to cut off funds if she doesn’t remove the “Where do you stand on gun control?” question that she now requires every potential adoptee to answer during a screening interview.

And conversely, it makes their side just as easy to identify.
Been an NRA member my whole life, wife’s finally got her CCP.
Every time my boys and girls go to the Vet he just smiles at them and tells them “YOU GUYS WON THE LOTTERY”.
All my boys and girls are rescues (including LUCY the cat).
I don’t have a political agenda when it comes to animals except if you hurt my dogs; I WILL KILL YOU!
Yeah. Damn small screen and spell check screw me all the tome.

Them. They’ll spay/neuter them. :)
I really miss that magazine…a staple in my college dorm.
Will they require masks and to be “fully vaccinated”? Will customers have to sign a declaration of allegiance to Lord Biden?
And how the hell do they determine that
Yea, some moonbat in South Carolina worked for a “humane” society.
Authorities found dead animals in cages all over her property.
Civil Rights discrimination.
If a cake shop can be sued, so can they.
Here is the moonbat.
how about one that fights pit bulls?? bet she has no qualms about that
Beat me to it. :0)
I’m guessing this is a constitution violation of the freedom of association. Someone is going to deny me service based on my choice of association.
They better not put any animals down while they exercise their stupidity.
A 501c3 is allowed to do issue advocacy. They can't campaign for a particular candidate.
Some of the Shelters around Raleigh make you “apply” to adopt, asking ridiculous personal questions and charging exorbitant fees. I went to rural county east of Raleigh and adopted 2 kittens for $50 each. They came with vouchers for free vaccinations and sterilization when they reach that age. And if you send them proof that you had them fixed, they refund the $50. They are bboth great animals. I don’t know why anyone would deal with these officious a-holes in the city.
Ours came from a small community volunteer organization. They didn’t require ‘inspection’ - we had adopted from them before, and they just wanted to place the animals.
We got two really spoiled kitties from them - the old ladies lavished so much love on them, the cats think they own the place (even more than cats usually do.)
Yup
We dont care about the politics of the shelter people
We’d just as soon as have them not say anything
We are concerned about the animals
