Gov. Ron DeSantis is downplaying recent straw polls showing him as a leading presidential prospect in 2024.
DeSantis has outperformed former President Donald Trump in a number of such informal surveys at various events in recent weeks, a phenomenon leading to an increasing amount of stories on the seeming trend.
As he has done when asked about a desire to run for President in 2024, DeSantis sidestepped the question.
“I don’t do straw polls. They just put my name into these things, you know? It’s just, like, so what am I supposed to do? Like they sell merchandise and everything. I kind of would like to get royalties on that,” DeSantis quipped Wednesday in Fort Myers Beach.
DeSantis continues to demonstrate a national reach with the most passionate partisans in the party as a potential alternative to the former President.

He’s not going to run if Trump does.
He’s not running. That doesn’t mean he won’t. But he’s not running. As soon as he announces, if he ever does, and he hasn’t, the media and the whole world of trump haters will direct their activities onto him so fast it will curl your hair. You’ll have to use your imagination to picture what life was like before the whole work hated him
Like the way one has to imagine the media loved trump. So did all leftist politicians and star seeking New Yorkers. If you watch old tv you’ll see trump in there- the nanny. Fresh prince. Seinfeld. Wha? Yep.
Why on earth do people not imagine the word turning on DeSantis as soon has he gets into any race. Or refuse to believe he’s not running. I don’t know.
The media will never stop attempting to drive a wedge between Trump and DeSantis.
What they continually fail to realize is that these men know each other, like each other and will likely coordinate future political moves together.
DeSantis also knows Trump was robbed of his massive 2020 election victory, so he’ll let Trump decide how he deals with that reality.
And don’t worry, we will have a DeSantis presidency in due course.

They have already turned on him with hellish fury, and he’s defeating their attacks brilliantly. They tried to destroy him over Disney and failed. Then, The whole national media (except Fox) went after him on the “don’t say gay” bill, and he put them on their heels by calling it the anti-groomer bill. That left them on the defensive and sputtering in impotence. And it caused Trump to say we have to protect girls from boys in bathrooms - something Trump had never talked about before. Desantis is setting the agenda for Republicans!!!

Its the same kind of answer as saying, “I don’t engage in hypothetical questions.”
I doubt that anybody is going to announce their final intentions with regard to 2024 until after the 2022 elections, but it makes for interesting discussions.

No, Trump should be Desantis’s running mate. As president, Desantis will do the governing; as VP, Trump can tweet and hold rallies. And as VP, Trump won’t have the power to hire cabinet heads and other key officials, so we won’t have to put up with his bad decisions on that front

Due to respect and probably some political calculations, I agree that DeSantis will not run against Trump. If Trump decides not to run, then I think that DeSantis will be all in.
