Why US gas prices are at a record, and why they'll stay high for a long time

Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a major reason that US drivers are paying record prices for gasoline. But it's not the only cause of the spike.

Numerous factors are pushing prices up, with regular gasoline hitting a record $4.87 a gallon Monday according to AAA's survey — up 25 cents a gallon in just the last week.

Gas prices were already expected to breach the $4 a gallon mark for the first time since 2008, with or without shots fired in Eastern Europe or economic sanctions imposed on Russia. But now the national average is expected to hit $5 a gallon within the next two weeks, said Tom Kloza, global head of energy analysis for the OPIS, which tracks gas prices for AAA.

"I think we reach $5 somewhere between this weekend and Juneteenth/Father's Day weekend," he said. It was back in March that prices first broke the record of $4.11 a gallon, which had stood since 2008. That now seems like the good old days: The national average has been rising steadily for the past month, setting 27 records in the last 28 days.

More than one out of every five gas stations nationwide is now charging more than $5 a gallon for regular, and just more than half are charging $4.75.

The conflict in the Ukraine is not a reason, it’s an excuse.

The democrats are the reason.

When Trump left office, we were energy independent, had the strategic reserve full, were exporting oil, and had much lower gas prices.

Gas prices started going up the day Biden took office and cancelled the Keystone pipeline.

No energy company executive in his right mind would invest heavily in petroleum production right now.

Producers don't make capital investment decisions based on today's prices, they look a couple of years ahead. Oil futures for then are in the $80s.

They think these levels are 'transitory'.

Putin would have never invaded if Trump were President.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a major reason that US drivers are paying record prices for gasoline.”

Fine work by the Ministry of Truth. Oceania has always been at war with East Asia...

CNN, replay your coverage of your fake president signing EO’s after inauguration. Take a critical look at the policy actions taken in the days that followed. This is all on your dementia riddled, horribly character flawed, weak, and stupid fake president.

The EIA weekly report comes out today about 10 as I recall.

You can see there how high production is.

Last week it was about 11.9 million barrels per day, up from last year by about a million barrels a day.

The peak was 12.9 million on 1/3/2020.

Well, if you’re gong to be serious about your propaganda, it’s always a good idea to lie in the first sentence.

I always wonder, where do the greenie weanies think the electricity that powers their cars comes from? Do the think it is magically created by little fairies using pixie dust that live in the walls of the charging station? I mean that electricity is generated somewhere using some type of carbon fuel…

Many of them are “dry holes”, or “non-volume producers”, so they’re not worth pursuing. It also takes a LONG time to explore, get permits and move/set-up equipment to begin production. The “existing 9,000 leases” is a “shiny thing Bidet&Co have thrown on the ground, to distract from the real goal/problem: Bidet&Co’s plan to move everyone to EVs, and kill off ICEs.

But you knew that...

Of course it is.

He’s now trying to undo agreements concerning licenses to
drill that were already granted.

It’s war on energy, and the populace is being told to look
over there, not at what is clear as day and right in front
of them.
