The buckets of cold water Turkey is pouring on Finland and Sweden’s bids to join NATO may be coming from the sea around the shore of Cyprus, the divided Mediterranean island that is a bargaining chip for the Turkish president, Tayyip Erdogan.
There is mounting evidence that Turkey could be using its status as a member of NATO to wield its veto power over the anticipated accession to the alliance of the two Nordic countries as a lever to force the international community to confer legitimacy on its de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
London’s Sunday Express recently reported that the leader of the TRNC — which is recognized by no other country but Turkey — requested that Mr. Erdogan put the status of the rogue state on the table in the NATO talks scheduled to take place later this month. The rogue state's president, Ersin Tatar, told the British newspaper that his aim is for North Cyprus to be recognized as a separate country.

No, the cold war has not ended. Russia is still living in WWII, in case you have not seen the parades. North Korea and Iran are acquiring nukes in regions we took nukes away. Russia has been modernizing their nukes, piled tactical nukes and China is growing nukes like sausages.

Months ago, Biden made a preemptive concession to Erdogan and Putin, pulling US support for the East Med pipeline, which would (still will) benefit Israel, Cyprus, Greece, and the rest of western Europe.
Having NATO control of the Dardanelles and the not-to-be-underestimated Turkish military on the USSR’s southern flank were strategic lynchpins during the Cold War. But Turkey is now a wildcard, no longer the secular republic Ataturk built. And having both they and Greece in the alliance together was always awkward. So, if it comes down to weighing Sweden and Finland in the scales against Turkey, the Turks will likely lose.

Turkey is going to be a much bigger pain than Russia is, down the road. All of those Muslims scattered throughout Western Europe, will support Turkey, when it comes time to rebuild The Ottoman Empire.
