Having NATO control of the Dardanelles and the not-to-be-underestimated Turkish military on the USSR’s southern flank were strategic lynchpins during the Cold War. But Turkey is now a wildcard, no longer the secular republic Ataturk built. And having both they and Greece in the alliance together was always awkward. So, if it comes down to weighing Sweden and Finland in the scales against Turkey, the Turks will likely lose.
