The Democratic primary for a Georgia county has been called into question after a hand count revealed the voting machines were off by thousands of ballots.
Marshall Orson, a Democratic DeKalb County school board member running for the county commission, asked the local elections board on Thursday to not certify the results as scheduled on Friday due to "numerous issues" with the race.

Why do states even run primary elections? Political parties are private entities, and they should choose their own candidates in whatever fashion they choose, be that by a survey of their members, caucus elections, on-line voting, or by the leadership choosing a candidate.
But governmental resources, equipment, personnel, and real estate should not be used to select a private entity’s political candidates for office.
Very good point. We don’t as ‘why’ often enough.
How could the election machines be off by “thousands” of votes in a local election?
There were probably only few thousand votes.....so that means the error rate is larger than the margin of victory would have been.
Sometime people are going to get that we are being played.
Is this a white guy suppressing the black vote ???
I am all for primaries, without them nothing but establishment candidates would even get considered.
Trump would have never become POTUS without primaries, Ron DeSantis who was not the establishment pick would never be Governor of Florida without primaries.
Hillary Clinton would probably have become POTUS without primaries, Obama defeated her in the primaries even though she was the overwhelming favorite of the establishment when the race started, and she probably would have defeated McCain.
The primaries allow someone to rise up and have a chance to take on the establishment without them we would be far worse off.
Are they perfect, NO, but they are a far better system than allowing party insiders choose the candidates.
And people actually think Kemp has a CHANCE against Abrams.
The Georgia voting system has become the Chicago of the South.
It’s all good, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was just renominated by the GOP and I’m sure he’s on top of it.
Good points suggesting a history project:
Investigate origins and first appearances of taxpayer funded primary elections.
With all the above being true, why would we expect that the integrity of voting would be respected?
We will never again have trustworthy elections unless and until we make the penalties for cheating very severe - and prosecute to the fullest anyone who is found guilty of election fraud. This should include prosecutions for aiding and abetting if you knowingly let someone practice vote fraud and didn't report them.
>>>How could the election machines be off by “thousands” of votes in a few local election?
Dekalb county has 521k registered voters and, as a suburb of Atlanta, is heavily Democratic.
So “thousands” is possible. If not likely.
We also don’t seem to think that our ancestors might have actually known what they are doing, and given something some thought. Instead, insight that came to us while taking a dump in the morning is signed into law.
Both traits are common, and why there used to be safeguards in the structure of government to protect against the uninformed and unwise.
They'll get to the bottom of it all, I'm sure...

The RINO Kemp watered down the election integrity law so much that it doesn’t come close to ensuring secure elections in Georgia.
Amazing how errors alway favor the DemonRats.
There is no LAW that states there MUST be a primary. Iowa is one of the famous states that always has a presidential caucus instead of a publicly-administered vote for a primary.
Nobody, including Trump and Desantis, can just declare themselves a Republican and get on the primary ballot. They have to have the approval of the party.
And remember that for president at least, each state primary is really voting for delegates to the national convention, not a direct popular vote of the candidate.
So I ask again, why should the county clerk administer an election for a private entity?
The reason this case might have a bigger impact that others is this particular election involved 2 Democrats, one who got screwed, Democrats react differently when it’s one of their own getting screwed.
Yes, a Democrats was favored by the cheating, but it was at the expense of another Democrat.
They used to have state conventions that did that. Somehow that came to be seen as “undemocratic”, “unrepresentative” full of those “awful smoke-filled rooms”.
Truth is, I don’t think they are any worse than the current primary system.
Unless and until election fraudsters are instantly punished with death the fraud will continue un abated
