Supply Chain Woes Create Popcorn Shortage for Movie Theaters Looking for Summer Rebound
NBC 4 New York ^ | 6/2/22 | Lynda Baquero

It's a must-order when you go to the movies — but now some theaters are seeing a popcorn shortage just as the summer blockbuster season starts.

As "Top Gun: Maverick" shattered Memorial Day Weekend box office records, more and more people are returning to movie theaters, some for the first time since before the pandemic. But moviegoers may be missing a beloved staple thanks to supply chain problems.

The same issue that has impacted cars and furniture for about two years is now hurting supplies at movie theater concession stands.

"For a certain time a few months ago, it was difficult to get the canola oil for the popcorn and it wasn’t because they didn’t have enough oil. It’s because they didn’t have the glue to enclose the box that the oil bib goes in," said Ryan Wenke, the director of operations and technology at Prospector Theater in Ridgefield, Connecticut

The increase happened when movie theaters began upgrading to stadium-view seating and state of the art sound systems. Also some movie theaters have upgraded their refreshments and included beer and wine. This was brought about by consumer demand.

So naturally, prices are going to increase.

I knew it, I just knew Biden was going to cause a popcorn shortage. You could see it coming right here on the FreeRepublic.

“Much, much worse than Jimmy Carter.”

Agree, unlike the Ukraine supporters (the Neocons), Jimmy Carter was for US ENERGY first, including coal, ESPECIALLY coal.

Also, unlike the Ukraine supporters (the Neocons), Jimmy Carter BUILT UP our military, in response to Soviet aggression, whereas the present bunch in the White House (Ukraine supporters) are DEPLETING our military at a record pace, dumping everything left after Afghanistan into Ukraine, only to have Russia take possession (or destroy it first).

I miss Jimmy Carter, he was far better than the Ukraine supporters now running our government.

Just purchased (2) 50# bags of popcorn. 1 White and 1 yellow.

That should last through the November election!

100% on all points. Jimmy Carter was an American, first and foremost.

In the context of Top Gun: Maverick, there's literally not enough popcorn.

The God of Abraham really knows His memes.

Speaking of blockbuster movies and popcorn...

only earlier today I was on a mountain climb (map-wise) inspired by the Reverend Mother who sang "Climb every mountain", and it's the same highway to get to the top: 522, "popcorn" [פופקורן].

No kidding, here's the map of the mountain, and everyone knows her by name:

Goes a long way in explaining why access to the northernmost point is from the north, which is "West", and even east.

"Almost heaven", in any case. Country roads. Life is old there.

Here's a Hebrew word everyone will get to know and love: מפה.

As a high school grad when Pearl Harbor was attacked Carter found a way to avoid WWII service.

The Russians made huge gains under the pro-abortion president Carter, thank God for WWII vet Reagan, who was hated by Carter.

Grapeseed oil makes a cleaner tasting popcorn. It’s cornier!

Carter did not avoid service. He was a student at the USNA. He was not commissioned a naval officer until after the war. He served just over seven years on active duty.

Last movie I saw in a theater was “Independence Day” when it came out. If people like going to movie theaters, that’s fine, but it’s not for me. Too many people don’t know how to behave there now.

I said he avoided WWII, not that he avoided peace time military service.

Jimmy Carter graduated high school in June of 1941, by the time he switched from Georgia Southwestern and then to Georgia Tech, and then finally to the Naval Academy in 1943, he was assured to never having to participate in the war.

I dislike Jimmy Carter as much as you, but this is BS. No one in 1943 knew how long the war would last. They were planning the invasion of Honshu (Operation Coronet) for 1946. So it was highly likely Carter would be in it as he graduated in 1946.
