Breitbart ^ | 06/01/2022 | Amy Furr

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) joined with state assembly leaders to announce ten new gun control bills, including a new minimum age and licensing requirement for the purchase of a “semiautomatic rifle.”

On May 31, 2022, Hochul tweeted, “New York already has some of the toughest gun laws in the country — but there’s more work to do to keep New Yorkers safe. We are going to strengthen gun laws, give law enforcement tools to prevent crime, & stop the spread of dangerous weapons.”

"Toughest gun laws" = "Toughest on the God-given rights of law-abiding citizens."

Let's be real here. Try finding a graph showing the homicide rate in New York City that doesn't end at 2019.

Homicides Surged in NYC in 2020

A weapon, by definition, is useless if it is not dangerous to the person it is used against. So we want people to have non-dangerous weapons like rubber knives and nerf guns? I can assure you that criminals will have the dangerous kind.

Same old bull shit! This dit and her RAT comrads will not stop a wacko from doing a mass killing. NY has some of the most stringent gun laws in the country and crime is out of control. When they start putting bad guys and nuts away crime will go down.

When is she going to implement Stop & Frisk in NYS’s Urban Utopias...

It was pointed out on a talk radio show yesterday (I forget which one) that the procedure is Stop, QUESTION and frisk. If they resist the questioning, then they are frisked. The downside is that using your right to NOT talk to the police will often result in a pat-down.

they will go to generic semi-automatic.
Like Ruger 10/22 ?
= = =

Wash state did this with no semi’s for under 21; included 10/22s.

Maybe they changed it back. Don’t know for sure.

You will be left with the third world nation filth that can now vote without being citizens and who exist on welfare.

The third-worlders with whom I have been acquainted are more likely to be working people than our own homegrown hoodrats and methheads.

‘Beyond ‘Assault Weapons’: Kathy Hochul Targets ‘Semiautomatic Rifles’’

And soon to include any semiautomatic weapon in that definition.

Once they get to outlawing BB guns, they will begin the drumbeat to amputate all male’s thumbs and nose-picker-fingers to finally get to the root of the problem...

This appears to be a coming approach by Gun Control advocates.

In the Soviet of Washington, out on the left coast, a state initiative by the voters created a legal definition of an Assault Weapon. Currently any semiautomatic rifle (even 22 LR tube fed magazine rifle) is now legally an assault rifle and require special rules for owning, mandatory training, purchasing and storing.

In Orwell's 1984, government controlled people by redefining what words mean.

No expert here but shot an AR, 9 milli pistol,44 magnum, and a 30 carbine from ww2 or Korea. That 30 carbine is powerful. AR was like whatever. The genie is out of the box folks. Gun control never works.

“...shot an AR, 9 milli pistol,44 magnum, and a 30 carbine from ww2 or Korea. That 30 carbine is powerful. AR was like whatever. ..” [rlbedfor, post 55]

5.56mm M193 = 1290 ft-pounds
9x19mm NATO = 430 ft-pounds
45 ACP MIL SPEC = 349 ft-pounds
7.62x39mm Soviet o1943g = 1500 ft-pounds
30 Carbine = 967 ft-pounds
44 Magnum = 971 ft-pounds
30-30 = 1826 ft-pounds
7.62mm NATO M80 = 2450 ft-pounds
30-06 (WW2 30M2) = 2570 ft-pounds

5.56mm has almost twice the effective range of 30 carbine, though the original bullet weighed only half as much.

Recoil as perceived by the user is somewhat subjective, and is much influenced by weapon design. 5.56mm round (close to 223 Rem) was developed from the beginning to deliver a low recoil impulse, to improve control in full auto arms. The M16’s predecessor was designed with the same goal in mind.

With the right barrel twist, bullet, load and a fairly accurate hit, it will take a deer right down. It's legal for deer hunting in some states, and knowledgeable hunters do very well with it. Know your effective range for good terminal ballistics, though.

Kinetic energy is the best measure of small arms cartridge/projectile lethality, as determined by US Air Force Research Laboratories. The key word here is “best:” as with most weapon effects, actual outcomes are highly probabilistic.

E = (M*V*V)/450380

will give you kinetic energy in foot-pounds, where M is bullet weight in grains, V is velocity in feet per second, and the four-digit number is the required conversion factor.

As familyop noted, a very great deal depends on projectile shape & material, and just what it hits on striking a living target.

In the state of New York, in 1970, any centerfire rifle was legal for taking deer (in those counties that did not mandate the use of shotguns).

In 1977, in South Dakota, I watched a buddy take down a pronghorn antelope with a single round from a 222 Remington. Slightly less kinetic energy than 223 Remington; 5.56x45mm was developed from 222.
