Cosby faces sex abuse allegations again as civil trial opens

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Bill Cosby will again be facing sex abuse allegations Wednesday as attorneys give opening statements in a civil trial that’s one of the last remaining legal claims against the comedian.

Lawyers for 64-year-old Judy Huth will outline the evidence they plan to present that Cosby forced her to perform a sex act at the Playboy Mansion in 1975 when she was 16 years old. The case will hinge on the testimony of Huth, bolstered by photos and other archival exhibits to place the incident in time.

I still lament the loss of being able to watch America’s dad on ‘The Cosby Show’ and not have to block out the knowledge of his depravity in order to enjoy it.

Such a shame when someone so talented has these issues, particularly because he was someone young black men could have looked up to as a mentor. Not anymore.

Assuming that at least some of the claims made against him are true the thing I can't understand is why he felt the need to do those things. A rich,powerful and famous guy like him would have women begging him for "some private time". Not every woman,perhaps...but many of them.Even without drugs he'd have absolutely *no* shortage of "companionship".

Why not? All sorts of scum are of TV shows and in sports. Frankly, I have no problem letting my kids see old episodes of "I Spy". The message (comparatively anti-Communist) is MUCH better than all the dreck on network TV today. Cosby himself was solid in that series.

Aren’t there statutes of limitations on filing charges in criminal cases? Is there no such limitation on certain types of charges? Is that why we see this case from 1975 coming up?

I just looked it up and the age of consent in California (home of the Playboy mansion) has been 18 for over a century.

So again, what in the world was a minor doing at Playboy Mansion?

I was just thinking that. As far as I know there are no limitations as to when a civil suit can be brought. The ability to bring a civil suit for what is a criminal act should expire concurrently with the statute of limitations for a criminal charge for that act.

I don’t like Cosby and I think MOST of what he’s accused of is probably true but 50 year old “he said she said” cases in our decrepid and corrupt legal system is a joke!

With a lot of guys, women who are interested in them, who WANT to be with them, are a total turn-off. They may wait and wait until they can get something that really excites them - sometimes forever. But once they get the thing they fantasized about, they’ll start to scheme on how to do it better next time.

Not to say there aren’t lots of women out there who are kind of the same - i.e., they lust after guys they can’t have or who don’t want them - but drugging a guy senseless kinda puts a damper on the festivities.
