Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky compared his country to Israel in conversation with World Economic Forum (WEF) boss Klaus Schwab during a video appearance at the Davos summit in Switzerland.
Addressing a crowd of a thousand business and political leaders, according to Schwab, the Ukrainian leader told the Davos organiser that, whatever happens in the present conflict, “with a neighbour like this” — namely Russia — “anything can happen anytime, and the war may repeat itself.”

Zelensky said that, over the longer term, the Ukrainian government would have to “create such conditions that people and businesses would not be afraid to exist in this country, to thrive in this country,” asking listeners to consider the “example of Israel”, which finds itself in a similarly hostile environment — but has managed to establish itself as a relatively prosperous economy with a thriving tech industry despite existing in a near-constant state of low-level conflict, or worse.
“Ukraine is a bit bigger than [Israel] and the task of defending our land is more complex,” suggested the Ukrainian leader, who is Jewish, adding that his task was to “create the most up to date defence system; to create the most modern multimodal defence and security system; to enter into preparation for cooperative defence agreements with the countries we respect and we have trust in… to see that any chance for the aggressor to try and enter our country in the future would be short-lived.”

Despite any Nazis in Azov, Israel is providing safe haven to Zelensky's family, as discussed in this Freeper thread. So it seems Israel is not entirely disgusted by Zelensky.

Zelenskyy has made this comparison before. A month or two back he described Ukraine as “big Israel” or “a bigger Israel.”

I think Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan are all similar in this sense - they have chosen to be hostile to a larger neighbor (or, in the case of Israel, have chosen to locate AMONG a larger neighbor known to be hostile) in teh false belief that, somehow, the US will “have their back” in the absence of a formal treaty.
This is, in all these cases, false. If the three states involved believed it to be false, their policies might be different.

Bit of a quibble, while the USA is very much the most important partner of Israel today (both militarily, via clandestine services, and technological innovation) (and vice-versa — we are described as a “unsinkable aircraft carrier and beachhead”, with more than a million person military), that was no always the case.
The USA was not a particularly great ally at the start and your State Department downright hostile to the establishment of of Israel as a sovereign nation. We (sadly) had to turn to the Soviet Union for help -— part of why we are still rot through with stupid communists.
Israel is in a very strange place in this war.
By far our largest plurality of immigrants are Jewish people from Russia and the Ukraine.
Everybody has at least a cousin on both sides of this war.
