NY Democrats in bitter battle against each other sparked by ‘Hochulmander’ overreach
New York Post ^ | May 17th 2022 | By Carl Campanile and Zach Williams

The Democrats pushed too far and now they are left to turn on one another for political survival.

That’s the landscape in New York where an ugly civil war has erupted thanks to the party’s epic failure in gerrymandering congressional districts for partisan gain that were overturned by the courts and order redrawn by a special master.

“I thought it was disrespectful. We’ve served together a long time. He’s running in my district,” Upper East Side congresswoman Carolyn Maloney told The Post of her longtime fellow House member Jerrold Nadler’s sudden announcement that he’d be challenging for her long-held seat after being drawn out of his own.

Nadler’s west side base in the 10th congressional district, where he has resided and which he has represented for five decades, was redrawn into Maloney’s 12th congressional district.

(from the article): "Maloney, 74, said she was stunned when Nadler, 76, put out a statement Monday saying he was running in her district without the courtesy of a phone call.

She called Nadler to see if they could work together to try to get the House lines altered. Nadler, according to Maloney, said it was a waste of time and told her to run in another district."

Gotta love it, the Rats are viciously turning on each other as Americans are *finally* waking up to the fact that Dems are only out for their own power trips and could care less for their constituents.

Come the Dem primary and one of these two political hacks will be gone ... hopefully come November 9th a Republican will win the newly melded 12th district of NYC and BOTH will be gone !!!
(well, I can dream, can't I ???) /grin

I’m so happy one of these two will be gone after next January. They’ve both been odious for decades.

If I had to pick who was more odious, I’d choose Nadler.

It’d be sweet for Jim Jordan to be Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and Nadler ousted.

Nadler is clearly ill. I'm really surprised he wants to continue, since he can hardly walk the halls. Just goes to show how all-consuming power can be.

Gerrymandering is a distraction.

As long as NYC has RCV and the state has RCV-enabled voting machines, Deep State ain’t going anywhere.

Nadler has not represented his district for FIVE decades, but only for 3 decades. The NY Post cannot even get basic facts right. Conservative media suffers from such repeated sophomoric mistakes.

New York is in Avery bad way. Maloney and Nadler are harder to get rid of than old luggage. The people of NYC truly are that dumbed down.

The NY Post cannot even get basic facts right.

Yah ... as a long time reader and subscriber to the print edition of NY Post, I've noticed that their writing and editing has been deteriorating recently. One glaring example would be the misuse of 'is' when referring to plurals.

(hypothetical example: "The NY Post writers and editors is producing a daily newspaper")

This has not just been the occasional one-off grammatical error, but has been printed repeatedly in numerous articles over recent months ... I cringe whenever seeing it.

The long term office holders begin to think the position is theirs just because they’ve been there for so long. Also, their infrastructure has been spreading the loot around for so long a personnel change means some are kicked off the gravy train (the worst possible outcome for the corrupt). Both of those people need to be “retired” (74 and 76 yoa).

This is going to be interesting. I think this marks the decreasing power of the machine politics. In NY

Nadler was “annoited” to his seat after the serving Rep, Ted Weiss. died. This happened after some back room deal was completed. Once he was in, he was in, no real challengers, just safely cruise to re election. Note this strategy backfired on Joe Crowley, who was “in” after being annoited, never ran a campaign until ousted by AOC.

It seems to me if the power brokers were still in charge, they would push AOC aside as she is very junior and her district neighbors Maloneys. The fact that there is no talk about this tells me the power paradigm may be shifting, that the social media crowd may be supplanting the traditional candidate selection process, which was never really with the voters but with the party bosses.

An example of the bosses picking a candidate is David Dinkins. He was a loyal party apparatchik, he never did anything good, but he never did anything bad, he was just there and he checked a lot of boxes. He was kind of an uninspiring candidate. He barely beat Giuliani in 1989, but after a pretty bad run as mayor was defeated by a true peoples candidate, Rudy.

As well as having no 'marketable' skill other than being a hack politician .....

Well, when you are Nadler’s age, you don’t need any marketable skills. You can just retire and relax.

Arlen Specter was the poster child for this tendency — he had battled cancer for several years but was still trying to get re-elected at age 80. He even disgraced himself by switching parties to do it. Despite that, he was still unsuccessful.

Aside from my last post, one marketable asset (not skill) a lot of the still have is influence. They usually leverage that by joining some corporate boards or foundations. Or a no-show job in academia like Biden got. Good work if you can get it — a lot of $$ for very little effort.

So was it the “special master” who drew the lines that are now official? One would think that the Rat Party hacks in Albany would ensure that it was a Republican who was canned by new lines.
