The United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) on Monday ruled in a 5-4 opinion against an illegal alien who sought to appeal his order for deportation before a federal appellate court.

Pankajkumar Patel, an illegal alien from India who arrived in the U.S. with his wife in the 1990s, applied for discretionary adjustment of status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency in 2007. The adjustment of status would have rewarded Patel and his wife with green cards.

Gorsuch went liberal on us, on this decision. But John Roberts voted with the conservatives.

Why don’t we make it so literally everybody on the planet can live here. We would be so enriched with diversity

From the article...

“Barrett was joined by Chief Justice John Roberts as well as her fellow conservatives on the Court — Justices Alito, Kavanaugh, and Thomas. Justice Neil Gorsuch, a libertarian, wrote the dissenting opinion joined by the liberals on the Court, Justices Breyer, Kagan, and Sotomayor.”

“...falsely claimed to be an American citizen on a Georgia driver’s license application...”

What are the odds he voted in 2020? You only need a license to automatically get registered to vote thanks to Bill Clinton’s Motor Voter Law.

The man lied on his driver’s license application.

It was not a “mistake”. He knew what his citizenship status was at the time and misrepresented himself.

That is not a “clerical error”. That is attempted fraud.

"But John Roberts voted with the conservatives."

That's a shock! I'll have to mark that as an "unusual incident" on my calendar.

Gorsuch also celebrates perversity.

Have you even read the opinion?

Good grief.

Can anyone not see how sick this court is, to have a slim
5/4 victory on an issue like this?

It is very upsetting to see how thin our protections are.

'they have been here 30+ years??"

Too many loopholes for these people to scam the system, over, and over again. Lawyers are making big bucks specializing in this. They should be deported along with their clients.

Gorsuch will be the one who enshrines “gender identity” into law (replacing sex).

Read Gorsuch’s dissent. It’s hardly “liberal.” One might disagree with him, but it’s one based on his interpretation of what the law requires of the government.

Decisions like this really aren’t about “outcome” nor can you sum
It up in a headline or Twitter jargon.

It’s also why dumbs shouldn’t rely on newspaper or blog snippets for complex matters of statutory interpretation.

Of course he hasn’t. He hasn’t even read the article about the opinion, just the headline.

"Justice Neil Gorsuch, a libertarian, wrote the dissenting opinion..." (quoting the article)

I never understand why it's called "libertarian" to want open borders. If a true libertarian believes the US Constitution is the gold standard of law, and the Constitution gives Congress the authority to write law for immigration (which it has), then enforcement of that law is obviously libertarian unless you either change the law or amend the Constitution.

This case wasn’t even about whether the deportation should stand. It was only about whether the government’s determination was subject to judicial review.

When was the last time a single liberal justice jumped over to the other side on a decision? How about the last time a single lib tipped a decision to the conservative side? Ever?

Arrived in the 1990s, and SCOTUS is just getting to it?
