What's the matter with Pennsylvania?
Washington Examiner ^ | May 15, 2022 | Salena Zito

MEYERSDALE, Pennsylvania — Unless either Dr. Mehmet Oz or David McCormick pulls out a miracle between today and Tuesday evening, just over 20% of the Republican primary electorate is going to nominate Kathy Barnette for U.S. Senate.

This would mark the first time in modern Pennsylvania Republican primary history that such a complete unknown wins with no statewide infrastructure to support her candidacy, zero money, and little scrutiny. If she succeeds, she will have upended a race between two capable candidates who, up until a week ago, seemed to be locked in a two-man contest.

This would also mark the first time in Pennsylvania Republican primary history that an insurgent candidate has ever won a primary race. ***

***

*** There is no state party to rescue Oz or McCormick, because the party didn’t even have the spine to endorse in this race. ***

As a consequence, the party’s decision not to endorse in the governor's or Senate races has had long-reaching implications. By failing to do so, it left a ridiculous number of candidates in the race for both offices — in particular for the governor's race, where nine candidates stayed in long past their expiration date. This allowed the eccentric, far-right Doug Mastriano to suck up all of the oxygen.

In short, if Barnette wins — and everything at this moment points in that direction — she will undoubtedly run shoulder to shoulder with Mastriano. They’ve endorsed each other, they campaign together all the time, and they hold the same outsider standing — even outside of Trumpworld.

It is hard to find any pathway where either of them will win in November, even in the remarkable conditions available to Republican candidates right now.

Its a decades-old tradition that the GOP donor class in Pennsylvania thinks and acts like democrats.

Then every December they head to Manhattan and the Pennsylvania Dinner for a group slobber fest with Pennsylvania's democrat donor class, where they infer each others' importance.

2018 was also the year that the RNC starved Barletta's senate campaign.

Yep. Plus, Pennsylvania is a republican state- the legislature is Republican. Trump won Pennsylvania. Delaware is NOT! Some areas of southern Delaware are very conservative but numbers to win state wide office are not there- for ODOnnell or any Republican- I actually think ODonnell did pretty good for a Republican. The state is co-owned by the mob and the corporate globalists in Wilmington.

“ She could answer the questions on her military service.”

She did. Did her time in the Reserves/National Guard. Like many reservists, she was never called up to for active duty service.

Salena Zito was a star reporter for our local paper before it decided to go "me too" mainstream. She is exceptionally knowledgeable about Pennsylvania politics and was one of the first to predict the Trump upset in 2016.

I would trust her a lot.

Among registered voters, Democrats outnumber Republicans by about 500,000 in PA.

Anyone who thinks PA is a Republican state is either delusional or lying.

Mastriano has spent his entire adult life working for the government. His political career has been two successful elections in a PA state senate district where a Democrat hasn’t won since 1940. I don’t see him getting much traction outside his core base of supporters.

Kathy Barnette talks a great game but she has never won an election and has a resume that I would expect to see in a mid-level corporate manager. From all appearances, she hasn’t had a real job in years. She seems like a mediocrity at best and a grifter at worst.

PA Freepers: can this be right? No way for either Mastriano or Barnette to win?>>> It’s what the republican swamp people say. I guess they are all billionaires with the same type of stock predictions they have made over the past several years. nope. Who know. Mastriano went after the election corruption and the shut downs , One of the few and they crucified him. He started up the audits while Corman did nothing. Corman fired Mastriano’s staff and deleted his senate email account. And they say he doesn’t build coalitions. I think he gets along with RUss Diamond and Judy Ward. Two excellent Republicans. There are only a few “R”s that i will ever vote for from Harrisburg. They are as corrupt as commies. Barletta is fine but i don’t see why he is the answer to Josh Shapiro the dem. He lost to Casey for senate by a lot. I think Barnette can beat Fetterman (uncle Festus). No commie here in PA will vote for her but... I think she can appeal to women suburban voters. Lies by republicans against republican candidates are pretty hard to take. They lie about her a lot. even the Lie about Mastriano and his hipaa statement was a letter published March 18th 2020. It still is one of the most rational comments made by any one at the time. He was concerned with contract tracing. THis was March 2020.

“She’s being questioned at every turn.”

She could answer the questions on her military service.>>. She has been very up front and forth with. With everything. Just not on the Hannity show. OZ has to ask Erdogan if he can say anything about his service.

Not true. Not correct.

Christine O’Donnell self-immolated.

I live on the border of DelaWhere and saw it up close and personal.

Not accurate to say she and Barnette are the same.>>> Correct only no brain republicans would use Ad hominem attacks. saves time having to actually think. adding my own Ad hominem attack. When they thro out the she lost by 20% i reply that Trump lost Montco by 36% and then “what a loser” just to help with their minds exploding.

.29 Congress people have dual citizenship. His mother is in Turkey...and being a citizen gives Oz easy access when necessary. He’s a millionaire and his mom lives in Turkey? And i might not vote for the 29. Cruz is one. What is the game? Taxes.
