UN Gun Control Program Runs Amok Again

More than two decades ago, the United Nations created a program to curb the trafficking of small arms. It’s done nothing but fire blanks. So now, the U.N. wants to control bullets.

In 2001, the United Nations started the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat, and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects. Its next meeting will be held in New York from June 27 to July 1.

The Programme isn’t a treaty. It’s a political gathering that’s meant to encourage voluntary cooperation. It meets every other year to produce an outcome document that’s politically (but not legally) binding.

It’s supposed to work by unanimous consent.

The Programme has achieved very little, if anything. That’s not just my view. The U.N. secretary-general said so in 2008. New Zealand said so in 2012. Its supporters said it was “firing blanks” in 2014. In 2018, the Red Cross said that governments in the Programme talk a lot, but do nothing.

In practice, that suits most of the U.N. fine: All the nations get credit for participating in the Programme while actually doing nothing, while the Programme focuses on peripheral issues, such as 3D-printed guns.

--another excerpt--

"If the nations in the Programme genuinely wanted to help control the illicit trade in small arms, it could in theory be modestly useful.

For example, it could seek to eliminate the “Chinese exemption,” under which Beijing is exempt from the requirement to put serial numbers on its firearms, which makes Chinese guns difficult to trace.

But instead, the Programme focuses on irrelevant distractions—and on breaking its own promises.

In 2018, the Programme broke its rule of unanimity to approve an outcome document that added ammo over U.S. protests. The Programme wasn’t supposed to include ammunition. And adding it serves no useful purpose.

The idea of putting numbers on, and trying to trace, individual rounds of ammunition is nonsensical. The resulting database would have trillions of entries."

I trust, one day, people with the baby blue helmets patrol a city in the United States. That is simply going to be an epic time.

My brother used reloading to cut his shooting costs.

The V. Putin Arms Export Company will gladly supply arms to persons opposed to Joe Biden.

Need F-16 equivalent? In stock.

Need atomic bomb? in stock.

Low prices!

We still reload. It doesn’t so much cut costs per se, but you can make a boat load of high quality ammo and not depend on the supply chain.

Fortunately we laid a ton of components in before things went crazy.

It depends a little on the size and type of cartridges that you are reloading, but it can save a great deal. Many types of pistol brass can be used a dozen or more times before it has to be recycled. If you cast your own bullets... the largest expense in pistol cartridges is typically the primer.

But it can also turn into a fishing/hunting type of hobby where you spend far more on equipment and supplies than you will ever actually save on meat and fish. I have a lot of money wrapped up in it... but these days every piece of equipment is worth more than I paid for it.

Is the UN going to give up its guns?

Then, the U.N. wants to track where and to whom every bullet in the world is sold or sent.

I think this type of undue curiosity creates a risk of ticked-off characters sending the bullets in question directly to the UN at high speed.

You have to shoot a lot of rounds to make up for the initial reloading equipment costs. Buy cheap and stack deep during dips in ammo prices. Getting ammo in cases of 1000 usually will get you free shipping. With the economy going in the tank, ammo should be going down more in price because so many won’t have expendable income.

Some people (me) reload purely for accuracy that usually can’t be found in factory ammo. That being said, Federal Gold Medal Match is pretty hard to beat in .308

“UN Gun Control Program Runs Amok Again”

The Left, including many Democrats along with the UN want a one world government and to do that they need to destroy the Middle Class and then disarm law abiding citizens.

I think I’ve amortized the sink costs on my reloading kit long ago.
I also could likely sell most of the tooling for more than cost.
I have only purchased 22 rimfire ammunition and every day carry pistol ammo for probably 40 years now.

I think it has been very cost effective.

Did I mention I shoot probably 20-15 k centerfire rifle pistol and shotgun ammo annually?

Years ago fmr NY Gov Elliott Spitzer, aka the "Ladykiller" came up with a similar hairbrained scheme putting serials numbers on bullets.

If you’re shooting that much it’s very cost effective

I only shoot about 1,000 pistol and 1,000 rifle a year. 500 or so of the rifle are in matches out to 500 yards so I handload those. I doubt I’ll ever make up the startup costs but whoever I leave my stuff to will be set for life.
