Professors identify 960 ‘racist’ names in national park system

A group of professors and researchers identified 960 places within 16 of the country’s 62 national parks that contain “racist” names that promote “white supremacy,” “racism,” “settler colonialism” or “anti-Indigenous ideologies.”

The research team “examined the origins of over 2,200 place names in 16 national parks in the United States” and found all of the locations “have place names that tacitly endorse racist or, more specifically, anti-Indigenous ideologies.” There are a total of 62 national parks.

These names are “thus perpetuating settler colonialism and white supremacy at the system scale for future generations.”

I wish these professors would go to a national park and a bear would eat them

I suspect that the majority of these professors belong to the white supremacist race, and therefore, as a sign of repentance to the POC, they should sacrifice themselves by throwing themselves off the cliffs of these national parks and appease the gods of racial harmony. Works for me. We will miss them, said no one.

So Indians showed up and named places. White men showed up and renamed the places. Somehow whites are bad for this? Just stop it already. You don’t want people to be racist? Stop being a stereotype for the race industry. Nobody cares about this anymore.

WHen you are basing “research” on opinion, as you certainly are when you say something is offensive, then its not really research. Offense is merely opinion. What one person, or culture, finds offensive is not worth mentioning to another person or culture.

As an example, cartoons of Mohammad are extremely offensive to Muslims. To other cultures, its barely worth mentioning.

In other word, who cares?!

They need to tell us what Year Zero was. When is the beginning of our glorious new future. EVERYONE is tied to someone who will be found objectionable, if they continue this. Clinton, Obama, Biden - all are less than six degrees of separation from segregationists and KKK leaders.

These professors need to be silent and stop using hate speech like the English language.

It was created by white slaveholders—every English word is fruit of the poisonous tree!

Hopefully Los Angeles will be renamed to Los Diablos Ciego in honor of most of the upper level government officials.

Just think of all the name changes needed, due to political correctness. It goes far beyond what they are talking about in national parks.

All these places in California, with names such as San Diego, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Bernardino etc. need to be cleansed due to offending atheists and being inspired by Catholicism. Ditto St. Paul and St. Louis.

The state of Indiana, meaning land of Indians, needs to change. We aren’t supposed to say Indians any more, so even if this state’s name is thought to honor Indian tribes, that name has got to go.

Columbus, Ohio, needs to be changed, because Columbus offends the liberals of today.

Washington, DC, and the state of Washington, need to shed those offensive names, because Washington owned slaves.

How can Jefferson City, Missouri, keep that name? Jefferson owned slaves.

Just a few examples of place names which cause angst among the politically correct crowd. This name changing business will never end, if some people get their way.

These miserable curmudgeons won't be happy until ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING has a bland name:
* Waterfall #192
* Forest #426
* River #1,042
* Lake #672
* Delta #43
* Cliff #506
* Peninsula #72
* Isthmus #420
Actually, I think these miserable people would be a lot happier if we didn't have spoken or written language with which we express racism, white supremacism, settler colonialism, and anti-indigenous ideologies.

Let's all go back to the happy time when we scrawled on cave walls.

So a group of professors have tracked down “racist” park names.

Years ago I watched a documentary about a tropical island. The professor in that documentary was a very wise man. He wasn't obsessed by race. And he didn’t see racism everywhere. I wish today’s professors would be more like him.

(Excerpt) Read more at thecollegefix.com ...

SPOILER ALERT!

Here is the ONE WEIRD TRICK alluded to so you don’t have to bother clicking. It doesn’t name names. It just describes names that might be changed.

***********

The study also reported that 214 names appropriate Indigenous language, 205 names replace an Indigenous place name with a colonizer name, and 52 names honored violent individuals. Others, such as Yellowstone National Park, were “the work of white urban power elites,” including Teddy Roosevelt. The former president helped grow the National Park Service.

The researchers wrote that “white hegemonic symbols embedded in parks can contribute to a perception that white people are the primary stewards and knowledge keepers of nature” and as a result make racial minorities feel excluded. “Black people are 13% of the US population yet they are only 1% of US national park visitors, while white people are 76% of the US population and 96% of visitors,” the paper noted.
