Psaki says the Biden administration is working with the FDA and manufacturers to make sure baby formula is on the shelves during a nationwide supply crisis that has seen mothers paying $120 a can

Desperate mothers across the US have been forced to buy formula they know will make their babies sick as the country grapples with a shortage that has left shelves bare and has caused prices to skyrocket to $120-a-can.

The share of baby formula out of stock across the U.S. hit 40 percent on April 24, according to Datasembly. That's up from 29 percent in March.

Wynter Balthrop, of Gallatin, Tennessee, says she broke down inside her car after driving to six stores and calling others as far as three hours away only to receive the same answer - the Enfamil's Nutramigen formula, the only her baby tolerates, was out-of-stock.

When it dawned on her she would have to feed her baby girl, Blakely, non-hypoallergenic formula she knew would make her stomach sick, the new mother burst into tears.

'[I was] panicking and sad for my girl because we had enough formula left to make one bottle - and I knew we would have to use the generic formula that hurt her stomach again. And that broke my heart,' Balthrop told Fox.

Balthrop is among a growing number of mothers who have resorted to desperate options to feed their babies as America continues to struggle with a baby formula shortage fueled by the supply crisis and formula recalls.

Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota have been especially affected with shortages higher than 50 percent that have left shelves empty and have led to staggering prices of $120-a-can on eBay, The New York Times reported.

A total of 26 states have out of stock rates of 40 to 50 percent.

Major retailers such as CVS, Walgreens, and Target have limited in-store and online purchases to up to three-per-buyer, as parents have raised concerns that many are hoarding

If only there were some other way to feed babies other than buying expensive tainted formula from multi-national conglomerates.

Why has no one figured out how to do this ?

but many can, and many can produce extra milk as well.

what percentage of women who use formula could breast feed as well ?

if even half those women did so there would be plenty of formula for those who cannot.

However, if women who can breastfeed did, there would be plenty of formula for those who can’t. Breastfeeding is not only good for the baby, it is good for the mother. Women who breastfeed are less likely to develop breast cancer, babies are less likely to reject breast milk or have food allergy issues. As a mother of six, I breastfed each one including my twins - you can be sure I was happy not to have to pay $30 per can of formula. Many women dont care how much it costs because taxpayers pay which drives up the cost. After the who Covid vaccine thing, I am now highly suspicious of the push babies onto formula. Now how you feed your baby can be controlled by nefarious outside sources.

It’s never that cheap. It’s probably $30 per can normally

Hint: Breast milk can carry diseases. Not a great idea to share that sometimes.

Yet another artificially created shortage. It was created mostly by stupid Wuhan policies. Product recalls didn’t help but supply issues are a direct result of insanity.

This crap has to stop.

Agree. Mine were breast-fed as well. My pediatrician suggested that I give mine a bottle occasionally so that they would be familiar with it, just in case I was called out of town or became ill. But I don't think I bought more than a couple of cans; I preferred to pump and freeze. The ladies in our family are all good milk producers - Holsteins :-) My husband got me a hat from the local Dairy Queen . . . have no idea how he persuaded them to give him one but I bet it was funny.

I don't get why women are against it, unless it's because you have to be careful what you eat because it may affect the baby's digestion. But not only is it free, it's so darned convenient. No boiling bottles and nipples, no mixing formula, just plug and play. I kept the baby in a bassinet by my side of the bed, and got the routine down pat - nurse one side, burp, nurse the other side, burp, change the diaper, back in the bassinet. Got so neither of us ever really woke up . . . My only complaint was that my dear husband couldn't help with the feedings . . .

This media hysteria always fails to mention that the baby formula “crisis” has been going on for quite awhile, and one of the reasons formula is kept under lock and key is because our friends the drug dealers like to use it to cut their “product.”

My wife fed all our kids. Literally from breastmilk to pizza. After that we had a Nubian Dairy Goat. She ate the brush and weeds with a little goat chow and she milked a gallon a day. More milk than we knew what to do with.

A bale of hay every four days in winter.

Cow’s milk isn’t ideal for babies. I think you’d have to add some things. Could be done, though. I’ve made home-made formula for kittens and puppies.
