Ruth Bader Ginsburg's 'Cult of Personality' Doomed Roe v. Wade—Experts
Newsweek ^ | May 4, 2022 | Darragh Roche

Posted on 05/07/2022 2:32:41 PM PDT by DoodleBob

The late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's failure to retire from the Supreme Court may lead some of her admirers to reassess her legacy if the landmark abortion rights decision Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Political scientists who spoke to Newsweek about the leak of a draft Supreme Court majority opinion that would strike down the 1973 ruling suggested that a "cult of personality" around Ginsburg contributed to the current threat to Roe.

Ginsburg was an iconic figure who is still widely admired, particularly by progressives, but her decision not to retire from the nation's highest court has been criticized in the past. Her death in late 2020 enabled then President Donald Trump to nominate Amy Coney Barrett, a conservative to the Court.

Ginsburg was appointed to the Court by then President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, in 1993 and was long considered the most prominent member of the liberal wing, becoming the subject of comedy sketches, memes and merchandise.

Politico reported on Monday that Barrett was one of the five justices who voted to overturn Roe in conference. She was joined by Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

...

David A. Bateman, an associate professor of government at Cornell University, pointed out that Roe has not yet been overturned but told Newsweek that if it is overturned, it would represent, in part, "the failure of Ruth Bader Ginsburg to prepare for the consequences of her mortality."

He said it would also represent the failure of Democrats to win the 2016 presidential election. Bateman said these were normal failures and noted that just as Democrats can't win every election, "people don't like to get ready for their own demise."

The turtle is a piece of turtle dung. No way Roe v Wade would have any chance of being overturned it Jeb was POTUS in 2016 and reelected in 2020.

Only Trump would build a wall.
Only Trump would move Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.
Only Trump would try to pick the most Conservative judges that the RINO scum in the Senate would be willing to approve.

With the exception of Trump, every POTUS from both parties, since Bush Sr got elected in ‘88, has made the rich richer and everybody else poorer.

If you actually think that the RINOs are one iota better than the Democrats, then enjoy your fantasy world. I used to live there myself. Not anymore!

‘Trump was the best president of my lifetime by a mile, with Reagan a distant second...’

Reagan won back to back elections by very comfortable margins;
so did Ike, for that matter...

She would have had to retire in 2014 in order for her replacement to have been approved under those conditions.

She was 81 in 2014. They were begging her to retire. Democrats knew there was a tsunami coming their way in the midterm senate races.

Well you can tell very little from the orals. I always think of Kennedy and Gay Marriage. He was very vocal with his doubts about upending a thousand years of human tradition and culture and then he did just that.

The saint of abortion has now been declared the devil of stopping it, by the pro-abortionists.

In the end, Ginsburg’s massive ego just wouldn’t let her retire and let a younger commie take her place. She thought herself far more important than anything else.

Without the Turtle leading the Senate, you don’t have 5 votes to.overturn Roe.

“Reagan won back to back elections by very comfortable margins;

Ike ran in a less partisan era than Reagan.
Reagan ran in a very partisan era.
Trump ran in a hyper partisan era.
Let us judge each man by the era he belongs to.
I think neither Reagan nor Ike would have won back to back races in this hyper partisan era.

So do I. The margins would have been too large for the dems to steal. The economy under Trump pre-Covid was the best I've ever seen in my 53 years. What he did for the economy was incredible.

It took a pandemic in an election year to eliminate Trump.

COVID gave the Dems the perfect cover for their cheating.

“It took a pandemic in an election year to eliminate Trump.”

No. It took stealing an election. You’d have to be an idiot to think Biden got 81 million votes, the most ever in any election.

Don’t forget that GW wanted Harriet Miers instead of Alito. Only the massive outcry from conservatives forced W to withdraw her nomination and appoint Alito.

Also don’t forget the arrogance of Cheney and W in the Miers appointment. They said sure, she’s not really conservative, but “trust us” and don’t askk any questions about her.

That makes it worse, so he tossed his beliefs aside because he was worried he wouldn’t get invited to Thanksgiving dinner. Much of gender BS leads right back to that selfish act.

Mitch is the worst piece of garbage in all of DC. Worse than Obama, Pelosi, Brennan, and Comey. And the reason for that is that he has all you fools fooled.

Mitch is far from perfect. But this decision on Roe does not happen without his political acumen in the Senate.
