After abortion leak, Justice Thomas warns Supreme Court can't be 'bullied'

ATLANTA, May 6 (Reuters) - Following protests sparked by the leak of a draft U.S. Supreme Court decision indicating the justices are poised to overturn the constitutional right to abortion, Justice Clarence Thomas said on Friday that the court cannot be "bullied."

The leak set off a political firestorm, with abortion-rights supporters staging rallies outside the courthouse and at locations around the United States, as well as an internal crisis at the nation's top judicial body where an investigation into the source of the unprecedented disclosure is underway.

Thomas, one of the most conservative justices on the nine-member court, made only a few passing references to the protests over the leaked draft opinion as he spoke at a judicial conference in Atlanta.

As a society, "we are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don't like," Thomas said.

"We can't be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that."

If the official vote is to overturn then it would represent a display of substantial courage by those in the majority. Does anybody really believe that the same Party that set the nation ablaze because of some worthless punk junkie felon isn’t capable of doing genuine harm...serious harm...to a Supreme Court judge or to members of his/her family?

I disagree with Justice Thomas. That’s not at all what our society is becoming.

It starts at a very local level - with police departments who enforce the priorities of Leftist mayors and city councils, rather than the law. During the George Floyd Summer of Love, police stood by and let businesses be looted and burned because their local government superiors did not want to upset big-money donors and Leftist interest groups, including the MSM. That is the whole problem - if Leftist operatives on the ground had to face consequences for their actions again, much of the big talk by their handlers would start to shrivel up and disappear.

To many Americans, the George Floyd Riots marked the point where their local police agencies outed themselves as enemies, not protectors. We can’t just concede local policing to the Left - it has to be taken back.

will become a post facto appointment and illegitimate to sit on the court.

It will have become the purview of the next office holders ,

who will be confirmed upon next VACANCY,

(not a ‘ deemed potential’ vacancy)

to nominate and confirm.

A past body cannot usurp the future body choice and confirmation with a past choice.

The progs don’t get to pre approve a future vacancy. That’s not just stacking the deck, it’s adding an ace to the deck. It’s cheating.

Advise Beyer not to retire before midterms.
