BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana owners of electric or hybrid vehicles would be charged an annual state road usage fee under legislation that cleared the House Transportation Committee on Monday.
The Advertiser reports that the bill’s supporters argued that the bill is needed because revenue to pay for upkeep and improvement of existing roads and bridges comes from the state’s 20-cents-per-gallon gasoline tax. Owners of electric vehicles avoid those taxes, and hybrid drivers avoid part of them.
Baton Rouge Republican Rep. Barbara Freiberg’s bill would charge EV owners $110 annually. Hybrid owners would pay $60 annually through the state income tax form, which would rely on voluntary compliance.

You know how those heavy batteries are tough on asphalt
Frankly, my hybrid weighs 700 pounds more than the non-hybrid form of my car, so if makes sense.

Put it on the registration fee.
This is a start. Nothing ever ends or gets smaller. The old of it moves, tax it. If it works, regulate it until it no longer works and call it a success.
Got to give the communists credit...
They never miss an opportunity to bleed the serfs...
These wokists have danced with the climate-devil, now they have to pay for the privilege...
They live to take our money. Their work, their hobby, their life.

Those 900lb toxic batteries
It must be a lot of fun getting slammed into by a LITHIUM SLED otherwise called an EV.
This whole thing is stupid, even the premise is wrong.
Not that anyone cares about a real solution.
End Fuel Taxes.
Instead a tire tax, and yearly tire inspections before your plates are renewed.
If ICE drivers are paying to maintain roads thru the gas tax, EV and hybrid guys can pay a similar amount, which is what this is about. They probably think they should be exempt because they’re being such good Greenies. Tough nugies.
How about fees for the electric...Our town provides it FREE which is absurd.
It’s just plain stupid to have a flat rate. Not only weight but miles driven makes a difference for wear and tear on roads. Should be based on a formula that’s based on a combo of GWV weight and miles driven. Annual inspection could record miles + VIN# or if no inspection, miles given voluntarily when renewing registration.
Of course none of it’s gonna come out completely fair but they could try to make an effort.

Better than the bumper of a raised truck coming through your window.

It burned up real good.
How do they determine the fees? What basis?
Broke Illinois has been doing this for a few years....

Actually, cars cause very little damage. The big trucks are the villians.
